Local servo (not a tiny one) reckons that BP's run out of ultimate, and they don't know when they are getting any more! They even have special signs from BP about the shortage, etc of ultimate, etc on the pump handles... I was annoyed, because i couldn't get it, but put in some unleaded (regular) and the car runs so much faster than it did on 100 octane optimax "extreme"!!! I pulled out hard of the next street and the car had noticably more power!

Anyway... anyone else heard this story? I can't get ultimate for a while it looks like :(

Announced to NZ... but nothing on BP site here :(

Yeah Azza, been through it here as WA04SXI said.

I put PULP in and got better fuel economy than Ultimate... Hmmm

Yep, my local BP station hasn't had Ultimate for over a month now. BP's website said something about "supply problems" or something like that in Victoria.

Yeah i used regular unleaded and my car seems to be a bit deader down low, but top end is just losing traction now, seems to have heaps more power IMHO!
Wierd...

I put BP Ultimate in my car on Saturday night and no joke yesterday as I went to leave work the car had a lot of trouble starting and the ride seemed gluggy. I thought it could be the fuel pump - need replacing, but this morning, somehow on empty again I filled up at Caltex using Vortex and well not a problem and the car is repsonsive again. Well, as responsive as a Barina can be.

So how do they run out of this stuff????

the WA refinery went offline or something, we have been told (mid last month) they will have more supplies mid this month... it's the 13th now, shouldnt be too far away

Yep, they ran out in Adelaide also about two weeks ago - servos have just started getting in new supplies.

To make things worse, Mobil also ran out of Synergy 8000 a whole month ago and as far as I am aware still do not have any!? (this meant there was NO 98 octane fuel available in Adelaide as we still don't get Shell Optimax or Caltex 98 full stop .............. )

bugger, sucks to be in SA when they run out of 98RON fuel.

because of the high compression in my car, i HAVE to run it on PULP. lucky i have been using Mobil and they have not run out

but BP only has 92 RON (unleaded) and 98 RON (Ultimate)...

i use Mobil Synergy 8000 and they have not run out, so it doesn't bother me

it's ok crisp, i didnt know about the fires, and the only way i knew about the shortage was because laurie came home bitching about having to drive another 10km to get petrol when he was on his reserve tank already

Oh ok... *sighs*

*Donna and I climb back under our rock*

I thought it was because I don't watch the news, I don't read and I don't go to BP.

Yeah, both of my cars have to run 98 octane, so it was getting a bit expensive having to throw in $20 of octane booster at each fill-up!

Here in sleepy/backwards Adelaide I believe that both the Shell and Caltex PULP are rated at 96 Octane, and the BP and Mobil PULP, (obviously not talking 98 here!) are rated at 95 octane.
