Hey guys, I've been doing a deal with Dave Riggs from www.irmscher-bits.com in the UK for some Astra parts for my convertible and he has announced that he is planning an expansion into an Australian website.

Extract from his latest e-mail:

Yes the site will definitely be going on, although it might be the early
2006 before it goes live, and it will be an interesting venture for us.

We are in a very good position to offer a good selection of goodies on the
Australian website, as we now have 3 main suppliers ... Irmscher-UK who
support us in every way possible, Vauxhall ... through the dealership, any
parts including serviceable parts, and finally our friends in Germany for
anything Opel. And we'll try and give OpelAus some kind of a discount
through the website :-) Please throw any ideas forward you may have, and
we'll do our best to include them in the new website.

Dave is interested in hearing what parts people are interested in purchasing. But, rather than flood him with e-mails, I suggest anyone interested could start a list in this thread and I'll give him an abbreviated version in a week or so.

I wish him well, as he has bent over backwards to help me with service and a good price on several occasions now.

Over to you guys for your suggestions.

Theres tonnes of sexy Irmscher Add-ons for the AH astra.
In particular the grilles (item numbers i 38 01 052 and i 38 01 050)
and the very mean looking front bumber (item number i 38 01 002)
Not to mention all the other tid bits that would look mighty nice on my car....

Those interior door handle covers in matt-chrome look sexy..

Holden quoted me a ridiculous amount to get those handle covers. Something like $500+. They said they had to change the whole door trim which is silly although they did seem pretty clueless.

Also Astra H cross hatch grille (new style), exterior chrome door handles, fuel flap cover and pedals. :D

You realise that the matt-chrome handles and mirrors are just silver paint? Can get it done at the body shop for less than $200 all up.

Yeah, but that requires going to a bodyshop and getting it done. :P

corsa B bits esp combo. if he can lay hands on the MTech items even better!

combo C would also be a go as I do a LOT of these for alarms and CDL . the factory bits would make it a LOT easier to do one. and of course - badges!

Yes, but you can still change it with an Irmscher part.

Pre-facelift on the other hand, you need to cut the front bar (as it is more noticably integrated). Which for the right grille, I have no problem doing.

Bit more of a plug for Dave Riggs (Irmscher-BiTs) . . .

Ordered and paid via Paypal for some bits last Thursday; Dave advised with an e-mail that he posted them on Friday; they arrived today just 1 week later!
If only Aust Post was this efficient!

Great service. No complaints at all.

How would some one (me) go about placing an order with this "Dave Riggs" fellow? Ive been bidding on Ebay for some add ons for my H Astra but have so far been unsuccesful. Also what sort of prices are you getting? Thanks

Poogene -- Go to www.Irmscher-BiTs.com and check out what is available. Don't order through the on-line order page at this stage, rather contact Dave Riggs through the contact page and request a price including postage. Postage costs to Oz is the part that hurts (and the exchange rate!).

Good luck, hope you find the bits you are after.

Seems like a helpful sort of guy, but sadly it will cost approx 60pounds ($150) to ship an Irmscher Grille that costs 120pounds ($300)... he says that items weighing upto 2kg are reasonably priced to ship but any major body mods are prohibitively expensive...

I wonder if we did some group buys through him, if he could offer some sort of savings in the process... any takers?

Yeah i know how much shipping is.. its abit of a joke.

My partner recently just bought a full bodykit for a corsa b from europe and postage is only $200 which is pretty good. Should be arriving here within a week apparently.

but anyways it really depends on the postal company. Some are really expensive and some have a reasonable price.

Can you recommend one thats good value?
Im not prepared to pay over $500 for shipping!!
I know that most continental European countries have cheaper shipping options, but its hard to work out exactly what the questoins are asking in German, French and Spanish...

Just checked out this guys website, and yes he is quite cheap, he must be buying his stuff from germany like I do and shipping it over to England either that or hes selling at the UK cost prices and making no money, just watch out for the postage prices (www.royalmail.co.uk (http://www.royalmail.co.uk)) and don't forget me if you get stuck. (Yes I know I don't work for Vauxhall anymore and am restricted to what I can get and never seem to have the time to answer my PM's)

The cheapest way to get irmscher parts is to deal direct with an Opel/irmscher specialist in Germany and negotiating good terms with them because the Euro€ is quite good against the GBP£ so the retail price you pay in Germany is usually about what it costs a dealer to buy in the UK.

So learn a little German and find a good Opel/irmscher dealer in Germany preferably with someone in the parts dept (Teile&Zubehör (http://www.opelnienhaus.de/otz.htm)) who speaks good english and make sure they can post down under (which my supplier cannot which is why I haven't named him) and you WILL save a fortune the shipping is usually cheaper and quicker from Germany too.

Danke :D The real Slimcraigie

That list I just posted totalled about 1500 pounds. However he did say to me that things were limited to 2kg post. i.e. the grill weighs just under 2kg's so that would be one item. Thus that list would have postage on just about every item.

Slim -- Not trying to cut into your business with my promoting Irmscher-BiTs, but with the exchange rate of $A to the GBP, which also affects postage costs, every little bit I can save amounts to a substantial saving at the end.
If you can offer any discount to OpelAus members on your listed prices, please say so and attract more customers that way, otherwise I have to presume that the prices posted on your pages is what I have to pay. Therefore, the cheapest advertised supplier will always get my business, and then if any further discount is offered, I win win.
For example, Dave at Irmscher-BiTs charged me GBP10 postage on an item with a GBP10.50 postage stamp -- on top of the cheaper price for the item! Still hurts . . . but not as much.
At present my UK loyalties are shared between Irmscher-BiTs, LMF Vauxhall, Opelcraft and the occasional lucky UK eBay buy.

Also for you Aussie shoppers: http://www.opelnienhaus.de/otz.htm do NOT and will NOT ship to Australia. I've tried, begged, pleaded.
I lifted this from one of their eBay pages: Shipping only within Germany, European Community bidders :
PLEASE ask before buying, if shipping can be arranged. We do not accept PayPal. No Overseas shipping.

Thanks Ian for the plug ... my inbox is full at this end :-)

All this interest looks good ... I'm sure this will benefit everyone.

I have an account with Irmscher-UK and buy direct from them, this of course means Irmscher-BiTs is fully backed by Irmscher and able to support its customer base by means of warranties and the rest.

I do admit theres many parts we do not make on ... its just to get people to the website. Many of the specials are either discounts due to our bulk buying (Irmscher-UK gives us further discount), or specials Irmscher-UK is running and we pass that onto the buyer, everyone should take advantage of these.

Shipping is a big problem on the heavier bits unfortunately, therefore to save everyones time we have decided we will offer a cut down version of the parent site excluding body kits and other larger parts, its just no good to get to the website checkout and be welcomed with a 70, 80 or 90 GBP shipping fee :-( And I have looked into sea-mail and theres very little saving (10-15%) with a waiting time of 2 months! Its a real shame as we do well with the bigger bits here.

We may need a few beta testers in the new year before the site goes live, and we'll try and code some kind of OpelAus discount scheme into the system.

Cheers for now.
Dave

Happy new year everyone ... I need some opinions on some Austrailian irmscher-bits site issues, and is to do with shipping costs.

In the UK we ship all consignments to our customers by registered post (recorded delivery/signed for). To protect us and the buyer we are looking at doing the same on the Oz site, this means an extra $8 on top of each consignment's shipping charge ... could you live with that??

Thanks for that, so Aus mail is not that good :( !

Paypay will 'try' and protect us from charge backs, i.e. if a card used is stolen, or the customer complains of non delivery of goods. In both case, if we use recorded/signed for delivery then we have another layer of security.

As long as it is signed for there isnt ussaly a problem. For example a package comeing from the eastern states was returned to sender 3 times before a overnight delivery bag was used and in this case it still took three working days to arrive. If its sign on delivery it gets there but other wise i am not to trusting.

im not very happy with aus post either! which shows how easy it is to lose a reputation, ive sent 14 things, all of them have been fine except 1, i posted it the first time, 3 weeks later i got it back in the mail, checked the address, all was perfect, sent it again, 3 weeks later it comes back to me for a second time, the third time i send it GUARANTEED next day delivery, and it takes 3 days to get there!

pred8r

I wouldnt send anything 'next day' unless you deliver it yourself :)
Theres always an asap clause after the guaranteed next day anyway
You spend the extra money for nothing.
However, everything I have recieved 'Registered' and to my work has always got there.
Noting against auspost but i feel if it at goes to a business address it should get there, if its registered at basically shouldnt go missing at all.

Residential is another story (in vic) its subcontracted out. There was a guy in Melbs west busted with 11,000 pcs of mail that wasnt his at his house.

Oooh, nice heavy box, customs declaration says car parts, I own a car........

Registered is the way to go, esp if you trust your workmates :P (otherwise PO box)
