New Astra Coupe & Wagon pictures

While I was out at lunch today I just happened to pass a Holden dealer…. Slowing down at a set of lights and I look into their yard and what do I see out the front???

A new Astra Coupe and an Astra wagon, so I did a u-turn and headed back to ask some questions.

My first question was how much one of these Astra Coupes would set me back. And I was told $24,990 + on roads and all the usual stuff, so about $27 - $28K on road.

The salesman (Assistant Manager) then asked when I was looking at buying one. I said I had just bought a car but a friend of mine was very interested in it. He then went to the jacket on the back of his seat at his desk and pulled out a cigarette and put it in his pocket.

Then I asked about the new Barina’s, when they were coming out and what sort of engine was in them and stuff like that. His response was that it (the new Barina) would be exactly the same as the current Barina but would just look like the Kalos. When I heard that I asked him if he meant that it would still have the same Opel engine in it, but interior and exterior would be totally different. And he went on again telling me that they would only be $12,990. I was shocked by that. I thought they got rid of the Opel’s because they were too expensive to sell at such a cheap price.

Throughout this whole conversation he is looking around, out the windows and at other salespeople in the room, not paying any attention to me and just being down right rude.

I had been told everything I really wanted to know in the first question that I asked, but thought I would ask some more about the Barina, because everywhere I go I get told a different answer. I had enough with him, so I said thank you for you time and started to walk away. He said “Don’t forget to give me a call when your friend wants to buy one.” I just walked out and didn’t way anything or even look back at him, opened the door and closed it as hard as I could behind me, just to give him a little of his rudeness back.

Anyway that was a long way to tell you that I took some photos of the new coupe and wagon.

The pics look nice... I think though the Coupe looks better in that blue colour... but anyways, I can't believe the dude was so rude!

@ $12,990 that's like putting the car in the Charade market pretty much, or in the old Matiz market! WTF? How can they use an Opel engine in it? I know he didn't really confirm it, but he shouldn't have said it would the same but as a Kalos because that isn't so.

How are they able to get the new Barina so low anyways? I keep thinking they are cutting costs somewhere by using cheaper parts with crappy quality. Wow... won't this give the Barina a good name!

I am kinda confused and a little dumb here, why is the Astra Coupe dearer than the 5 door when usually 3 doors are cheaper as in the current Barina's case and this Coupe doesn't have the Turbo or anything.... ?

CDX's - $25K
CDXi's - $30K

but then again i think i tuned out... by then so dont quote me on it

i was totally blown away when he said that the engine would be exactly the same... i almost fell over. that is not what we have been hearing anywhere else.

can anyone confirm whether this is true or not? (new Kalos/Barina will have Opel engine)





actually i just remembered exactly what he said when i asked him "what engines are they using in the new barina's?"

salesman - "The same as the current Barina's, the Holden engine."
me - "The Opel ones you mean?"
salesman - "Oh, yeah them"


i should have asked him if there was anyone there that could help me that knew about the cars they are trying to sell.... :) muhahaha

Dearer because there are more extras and a new design - holdens excuse.
New barina is the EXACT Kalos model that has been out for 2 years, except with holden badges and a couple of other aesthetic holden pieces.
F*ck them.

Just goes to show most know more than the sales people! He fitted perfectly the usual dish up you get at dealers, little knowledge and treat people with contempt, but they cant wait to get your money!
Example him ignoring you until when you left and he added "oh dont forget me when your friend etc etc". You have to be joking mate!!!

ohh he told me there was.. cos i asked if any of them came with a leather interior and he told me that the CDXi's did....

another thing he said that was wrong hey.... im definately not buying there or recommending anyone go there.... especially if he is the asssistant manager....

Its dearer because Holden is marketing the COUPE as a sporty sort of model, and it has more features, so they charge a premium for it.

$21990 for base CD 5dr

$23490 for CD Coupe

Add the alloys and cruise (and power rear windows) to the 5dr for $990 and the difference in price is only $510

For the CDX 5dr $24490

CDX Coupe $25990

Now who here is going to complain that that sexy body shape, the wonderful CDXi seats (including lumbar adjustment for both seats), FULL LEATHER and HEATED seats aren't worth $1500?
If thats not value I don't know what is and should be taken to the back paddock and shot at close range.

And the reason 3drs are usually cheaper?

Because they are marketed as base models.

Look at the old astra, the 3 dr was the base model, but the sexy old astra coupe was never sold here, if it was it would have been more expensive.

I see this coupe as a replacement for the old coupe, and there is no replacement for the old 3dr.

if u see it that way, its quite easy to see holden's reasons for prricing the COUPE slightly higher

In the cdx your deffinetly getting a great deal more than the 5 door cdx.
And it looks better.
