hi guys, im lookin for an exhaust place in melbourne. i goin 2 put a 2 1/2 inch exhaust, reso and muffler. i was quoted by carline in cranbourne - $280 including tip, mild steel, pench press. Just wondering to if mandrel bend would be much better considering im only after a nice note. Also one here struck any problems with warranty issues.
Also not sure if you can bag people here, but dandy ehausts had quoted me a price and then neva honored it, dodgy. Never go there again.

I will also try to help if i can coz i reckon i have been a snob, just lookin up stuff and not contributing. Thanks

Considering your running a Turbo, mandrel bend maybe worth it over a crush bent pipe. The type of bend will do bugger all if anything for the note but will contribute to exhaust flow (even if somewhat small), its more the size of the pipe any or lack of resonators and your muffler that will give you sound differences.

The Muffler Man in Prahran gets a good wrap, I also beleive Pitch has his muffler custom made at Hallam Exhausts, I have used Daadler in Box Hill for a previous car of mine. Ringwood Performance exhausts have done some mates cars as well who were all happy with them. About to get my mate to do hers there to.
Turblue i think had his done at Dandy Exhausts.

I guess you need to know what your after, appears you do, ring a lot of places get lots of quotes. Also you requiring a new muffler or you just changing pipes?

Write them down with a date and a name next to it...that way you can always ring back and say "I spoke to (so and so) on Tuesday the (date here) and he quoted...."

thanks nick, ill try some of those places. What i had been told by some muffler places was dont bother with mandrel bend unless ur doin mods.
Though i dont know what you mean by whether im replacing pipes or muffler?
I had written down the name of the guy and date, but he just had said that i miss understood him. I argued with th guy but to no avail, no luck when ur arguing with the owner.

In your first post you state that you got a quote of $280 for what your looking at.

Now you can choose to replace the muffler/back box (the end point of the exhaust system at the very rear of the car), or you can just change the pipes between the catalytic converter up to (but not including) the muffler.

Mandrel bend is not necessary, but if you want to mod further down the track you already have the pipes set up. Unless of course you need to go bigger pipes!

Check out this link...helped me understand a bit more about exhaust systems.

theres a great place in frankston if your from down this way he re did my exhaust after midas MODERATED it. he's done heaps of drag and show cars and he's priced well and wont rip you off like some big companys and he knows his stuff wich is the most important. he let me take the car for a week without paying and said if i wasnt happy in a week with the note it had to take it back he would change it and then id pay but i was happy with it so i just payed him

i got mine in highpoint mufflers. it is very good.. they offer 10 year warranty on their work.. and im pretty sure holden just covers warranty on the parts you have.. so your pretty much covered for the muffler? u get? ehehehe

i got 2 and 1/2 inch exhaust reso and cannon muffler for like 600 bucks i think it was?

yeah what the guy had said was that he would put in a 2 1/2 piping from cat back, reso and change the rear muffler. To be honest i would probably just like to change the middle with a reso and change the rear muffler and keep the piping as its stainless steel, but i guess that sounds abit stupid. Coz i once removed the rear muffler and the sound was still the same without it.
Once i changed the rear muffler on my calibra - v6 and it gave it a nice note.
Also i wouldnt mind knowing the place of of that exhaust place in frankston.

thanks guys

one last thing, if i just remove the big reso in the middle will i get a nicer note, so i can keep the stainless steel piping.

another question, what if i just change the reso in the middle will that give a nicer note so that i can leave the stainless piping. i removed the rear muffler once and it made no sound diff. Im not trying to be tight, just that i dont want to mod to much.
thanks

the middle muffler is what changes the sound, the back muffler is for back pressure? i dunno if i am right there cause i was told this a long time ago, i just got a reso put in and it made a hell of a difference to having a straight through

i have a nicer note and a very nice kick off the line

I was in at "Mr Muffler" in Prahran yesterday spoke with Colin (owner),and 1of the mechanics. They mentioned that they have done complete exhaust system on a black Turbo recently (anyone here ?). I'm pricing a 2.5" mild steel, mandrel bent from cat back inc 2 high flow resonators, Remus muffler with twin chrome tips. In addition - (under hood), replacing existing air rubber piping with Arden blue coloured piping / K&N pod filter dropped in a low position near RH wheel away from direct engine heat.
All up $2100 approx.(Ouch !)
ANY THOUGHTS WELCOME, I'm still shopping around Melbourne.
