Hey all,

Just a quick question, i am in the process of getting a manual boost controller for my srit, but i am having a problem locating the spec of the turbo.

first question, is it worth gettin a boost controller?

and second what are the specs of the turbo so i dont blow up my motor?

any help would be great guys.

thanks

CANT USE A MANUAL BOOST CONTROLLER AT ALL ON THE SRi-T MATE.
just go do a power chip. its the best and most reliable. your car will gain around 70Nm's on top of what its already got....

gotta say d same, d powerchip is the easiest way to get a bit more power.
standard max boost = 0.85 bar- 12.3psi, but really only reaches this in 4th n 5th gears as th ecomputer controls the amoput of boost that is needed to acheive th e250 nm of torque, powerchip puts this up to a constant 1bar- 14.7psi, amungst other things like ignition and fuel ratios.
147kw standard - 171 kw p/chipped
250nm standard - 292 nm p/chipped
figures taken from powerchip gold 98.

If you want , go a EBC with fuel cut defender , this system works very well .

Like Goran said manual controllers are not suited to out astras .

You go 2 pound over standard boost with a manual controler and safety boost cut will come in ( limp mode)

Do a search in the turbo section for more info

Or yeah go a powerchip :)

Fellas, to clear a few things up. You CAN use a bleed valve to give you more boost, and you CAN avoid limp mode by using the FCD also - the problem is that it is harder to be consistent, not that it can't be done.

I had a bleed valve for two days before I upgraded to EBC.

Horses for courses:

EBC Vs Bleed valve:
------------------------
EBC is a MUCH better way to go than bleed valve. It allows (depending on type) you to set boost limits, how much to reduce boost by when you hit that limit, adjust gain and starting boost. It is also a boost gauge and monitors boost spike and peak boost.

EBC Vs Powerchip:
----------------------
If you lend the car to someone you can put it on low boost or turn boost off! Like when I get it serviced or any mechanical work done on it.

Powerchip Vs Others:
-------------------------
PC gives you less trouble but you have no control over it. You need to pay more $$ to get new upgrade flashed up.

Coitenly can!
http://www.powerchipgroup.com/interact/datasheets/datasheets_one.asp

Your Holden Astra 1.8 (90kW) contains the latest technology ECU that can be re-programmed through the on-board diagnostic port (OBD-II). Specialised software interfaces with your vehicle`s engine management system to extract the electronic code via serial download. Once the information has been read, Powerchip technicians apply the performance changes and upload the performance program back through the OBD-II port. Installation can be performed by the end user with the serial programming kit or by any Authorized Powerchip Installation Center and takes approximately 2 hour's to complete.

In standard form, the Astra 1.8 (90kW) produces 90 kW and 165 Nm.

Powerchip has a range of chips to suit your car, which can increase it's power to between 97 kW and 99 kW, and it's torque to between 179 Nm and 184 Nm.

The price of the Powerchip is AUD $889.90.

So you have to ask yourself, is $100+ per kW worth it?

Another important thing to take into consideration!

Powerchip don't custom tune the map! They have found one that works, you drive your car in, they flash it up, you drive it out. Modifications you have already made are not taken into account and can have either positive or negative affects on the map.

If you get an EBC installed, it will be tuned to your car to get the maximum (safely) out of it.
