what they hell were you doing to cause that much damage? did you shift from 5th to 1st and then dump the clutch?

i think i'm going to go and get my gearbox rebuilt now, even though there's nothing wrong with it.

I hate to burst your bubble but no, just driving normally.

Im not saying i baby the car but i consider myself a good driver.

I do usually rev the car out to 4000rpm most time, i dont spend to much time in one gear, so i dont ride 1st 2nd or 3rd i change up to let the car run slower.

Always change my gearbox oil 5000kms.

Who knows what the people before me did.

im over exagerating a bit. it wasnt a complete destrution, but on of the gears i think 3rd could be 2nd just spat the dummy, went right through to the bitmen taking all the fluid with it.

Will know for sure tomorrow when they take it apart!

that sucks... you sure you weren't dragging an STI while eating a kebab

i hear the opel gearboxes are prone to breakage, in fact i've been babying my gear changes over the last year because of this. i also put that nulon gearbox additive which helped smooth the changes a bit, but i think it's time for an oil change.

worth putting in the ufo thread?

urs would be the aus built veccy right?
my old veccy was an '02 V6, apparently indestructible.
doesnt matter how far u rev it out, but they dont like quick changes.
mine never used to go into gear if i quick shifted. now wit the new car, i slow change always ( well sorta neway ).
as for me old pulsar N13 ( wit the opel 18LE motor, same as calibra C20LET just single cam non turbo, actually the same as 1 of the calibras, but had a diff name, think 18LF ) blew heapsa gboxes, n i mean SHATTERED  .
it wasnt exactly standard but, was pullin low 15's - high 14's. never got it down the 1/4, always blew the gb b4 i could.

worth putting in the ufo thread?

Obviously, otherwise i wouldnt have done it.

that sucks... you sure you weren't dragging an STI while eating a kebab

No more like wondering why i was being beaten by an old man in an electric wheelchair on the side of the road while eating a kebab

Mabey i should change the thread to:

"There i was dragging this Top fueler down the pacific highway. I drive a manual but i put it in sports mode anyway and we took of together but i kept reving it out to at least 3500RPM every gear.

Chirping "Drive" i knew sportsmode auto was too much for my Manual Gearbox, but i wanted to win.

I could tell he was trying to because he was reving to like atleast 4000RPM and he kept looking at me wondering why i was so fast.

Then as i reached into my KFC big bucket of chicken for another peice of hot and spicy my Sports Mode auto whent crazy and my clutch felt a bit funny. But instead of ditching the Chicking and pulling over i continued.

At this point i was only half to 20 car places behind him, but i knew that as soon as i hit overdrive id have him.

Then Bang my Gearbox spat the dummy. Pity i would have had him too. So i grabed another drumstick and it was then i decided sports mode auto was to much for me to handle."

personally I wouldn't bother with the MIVEC, FWD sr20's from the U12's and U13's are going cheap at jap wreckers and it's not such a bad idea. but you obviously have to factor in the time and money spent on the conversion

and..... you have to find someone who is game enough to take on the job. the words "lazy sh1t" come to mind.

sorry if this sounds rude but...........
WHY THE HELL WOULD U STICK A JAP MOTOR IN A EURO CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!
a euro car wit a jap spec just doesnt sound right to me, hope u's were jokin!

InsaneAsylum
11th April 2005, 08:44 AM
the only reason you'd stick a jap motor in a euro car is because it's a lot easier and cheaper to get much more power from an sr20det than it is to modify a euro n/a engine of the same displacement.

for some reason they charge big $$$ for euro parts and idiots are willing to pay that money.

because working on an n/a opel engine is a good way to burn your money.

I would go for the sr20det from a pulsar gtir front cut. Your only problem would be engine mounts.

InsaneAsylum
11th April 2005, 10:09 AM
the pulsar gti-r version has individual throttle bodies and is a bit more expensive than the bluebird version... but the base power is something like 170kw compared to 130kw

(very rough top of the head power figures quoted)

Anonymous
11th April 2005, 10:14 AM
exactly, why would you waste your money on an inferior motor, and then whinge about the lack of power in the long run? :P

InsaneAsylum
11th April 2005, 10:38 AM
cost basically would be the deciding factory. you buy what you can afford.

Sorry to hear about that freaktown, same thing happened to a friend of a friend, he traded his city after that for an astra T.

Where abouts on pacific hwy did it happen and what dealer is taking care of it for ya?

BTW, what kind of astra do u drive?

InsaneAsylum

as i said sorry if was rude!!!
as for more power for cheaper, ah turbo to non turbo :screwy:
take a close look at the power u can get outta d opel 2.0L turbo!!!
the only reason the cars on this site dont have that much, is no1 wants to void their warranty, or split the motor to do internats.
how much would it cost to get 350kw outta a SR20det?
cause i know that is posible outta the opel 2.0L!!!
if u wanna stick a jap motor in, go buy a gtir, but say good bye 2 d gbox!!!
they got 4 t/bodies, bigger cams, n a few other differences in d gtir.
but then again, i gave 1 a hell of a shock in my stock sri-t, we was boosted wit an exhaust so he wouldsa had over 200kw. over a 1/4 it was his tail to my nose.
i have said it 1ce b4, but will say it again. my personal preference is i dont like jap cars, but at least ur talkn nissan.
as for in general, euro bein dearer, it's only cause more people know bout the jap cars, n not many people know bout the euro cars. best off gettn a contact over in d uk, for cheaper parts.
oh yeah, bout $6000-6500 to get approx 350kw, with a engine built for reliability.

SH!t, i just saw a dyno readout for a C20LET, running 478KW!!!!!!!!!!!

auzvectra
11th April 2005, 06:47 PM
oh yeah wit 740nm torque!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

auzvectra
11th April 2005, 06:58 PM
damn, just found 1 higher, it got 550kw. it looks like it's been bored out to 86.25mm from 86mm.
dont think u could call that a stock engine.

auzvectra
11th April 2005, 07:03 PM
they do the 1.8L also, 121kw, looks like the figures are at the wheels cause the lowest upgrade says 85kw, wich would b 110kw at the fly, dat about standard.
i think it is saying standard figure, it all in german.

auzvectra
11th April 2005, 07:07 PM
make that 132kw for the x20xe.

InsaneAsylum
12th April 2005, 08:48 AM
dude, i'm not disputing the fact that you can make big power from a C20LET, it's just the cost. as you said it's a lot cheaper to get power out of a jap motor because the research has been done etc.

I don't have a contact in the U.K. and even if I did, when you go onto www.regal-shop.co.uk look at the prices, convert them into $AUD and start crying.

QSZ wanted to charge me $1600 for cams about 4 years ago, so I rang an aussie company who make cames for <$500... they tell me they don't work on vectra's because they don't know enough about them... c'mon!

think about this... what would be cheaper, buying an astra turbo motor, gearbox, ecu, wiring, loom, etc, etc.... brand new?

OR

buying a whole GTiR front cut?

SIMILARLY, there are a TONNE of workshops that would have a heap of aftermarket products for the GTiR engine...

who here in sydney specialises in astra turbo motors?

It's just more cost effective to go for the GTiR front cut, IMO.

auzvectra
12th April 2005, 02:46 PM
got quoted a while ago for gtir motor only $4000.
besides who said u need to use the Z20let, use the C20let it's a lot less!
what i was saying about the jap cars bein cheaper cause more people know bout them, is do a bitta research urself!!!
1 of my freinds has a 180xs wit d sr20, he's spent like $4000+ on it, n only got 270bhp.
i know the c20let will get a lot more for less!!!!

Its been looked at now by my mechanic in Granville. But as previously said, looks like the Diff Gears are gone.
