dont want to start any more arguements,
but according to motor mag, an 05' Subaru STI does a 13.62sec quarter.
some food for thought.
think of the initial jump the 4wd would get.

On a very sincere and serious note,

Congratulations...

They are some figures that I like to see.

Again, on a serious note, as I am technically minded, I was wondering if you could answer a few Q's for me. If you dont want to disclose, fair enough, if you prefer to PM, aswell, I'd be happy to know..

What ECU/Remap do you run?
Is it the standard turbo?
Has it be porter/hi flowed?
Are teh internals OEM (ie compression)?
Is the gearing OEM?
How is your boost managed? Does it hold 12.5psi to redline?
Do you run any knocklink device?
What fuel were you running? Any Booster?
Does your exhaust "meow"?

These are no way sarcastic or facaecious q's. I have "friends" with High 11 passes running CAI's and AVCR's, and High flow race cats..with standard turbo's and standard internals, and otherwise standard ecu's... (in another car I wont mention for fear of flaming!) however they dose up with Pro Strength booster.. but they do hold around 21psi to redline....

Serious q's, and serious congrats on your time.

this is what ive done.. no word of a lie..

1st.. 2 1/2" turbo back zorst and i use the original cat (yes it meows)

2nd.. K&N pod straight out of the turbo

3rd.. custom FMIC

4th.. UNICHIP running 12.5 psi

i use BP ULTIMATE (NO BOOSTER)

standard turbo, gears, internals yada yada yada

thats every mod ive done so far mate.. no word of a lie as there is many people on here who can vouch for these mods and they know im not running any booster or other sneaky stuff.. :D

:) Namus I like your Humour :)

12 sec pass would be possible, but fella's...it's going to take a lot of money and a lot of mods to get there, and be able to do it reliably time and time again.

On the shopping list would be pistons, injectors, fuel pump, new ecu, and a Turbo. I am unsure as to whetehr the stock unit could cope with holding, say 16psi.

From my experience, the difference between 14 and 13 sec passes is minimal compared to the difference required when chasing a 12 sec c.f. a 13 sec pass. Any further gains and you start looking at very very big costs.

Look at the trap speed on the times...Sure, Mohawk has made some vast improvements in ET, but take a closer look at speed at ET. A 12 sec pass would be a whole second off his time (which is a very very good time considering the few mods), and would mean a far greater trap speed...where will it come from? I think the chip has probably given him the mid range punch, but am unsure if the turbo is pulling all the way.. perhaps a fatter top end? How? A bigger turbo perhaps? Sacrifice? Spool up.

Perhaps if you're chasing better times it's the end of the road for the standard turbo? I'm not sure, I havent dabbled in it. Further gains I would imagine would be more financially economical from a new turbo, as opposed to working on the existing one.

PS..Please dont consider this post inflammatory...it is more technically minded and speaking out aloud.

PPS..does anyone have the flow rates and efficiency characteristics of teh standard turbo?

Wattie
18th March 2005, 10:05 AM
bleh, nice times mohawk!

Namus
18th March 2005, 10:14 AM
yeah i think someone else has said it already; any further mods made with the standard turbo (i.e. pistons etc) would be done so VERY carefully as not to do any damage....in other words, take it as far as she'll go; then bigger turbo; yes i realise this is wat u were trying to say entice.....and u were just giving some warning as not to stretch the engine and turbo too far.... 8)

Do you run any knocklink device?

Its probly not needed on a car with this sort of set up , the car is not on the edge of the turbo , and not on the edge of boost levels to warrant a knocklink.

I know these are common with rexxies running a utec ecu etc , but not common with modified astras . :)
