Here you go guys, for those that hadnt seen:
2005-03-03 New Euro Trio From Holden (http://www.media.holden.com.au/servlet/GatewayServlet?target=http://image.emerald.gm.com/gmnews/viewpressreldetail.do?domain=20&docid=12813)

and for better pictures:
Astra Trio Pics (http://gm.wieck.com/forms/gm/*query?Astra&source=holden)

Only thing im disappointed with is that its the same 147kw 2.0L turbo engine, not that its a bad engine, i was just hoping for one of the more souped up ones.

and there goes whatever resale i had left on my SRI-T........ lol.....

i wouldn't buy one

I'd save my cash get the older sri turbo, same power, lighter body, cheaper price, looks better

Tom76
3rd March 2005, 05:52 PM
Then you'll miss out on the IDS+ (it's standard on the Turbo over here, so i guess it'll be in the Australian version as well).

The OPC version will have a 240hp engine, btw.

SmellyTofu
3rd March 2005, 06:20 PM
It'd get more than a wagon to make my buy Opel again... The next car will have to be 4WD of some sort. Trying to break traction in the rain this afternoon is next to impossible.. well, maybe only got <1sec of spin with a 4 grand dump on the Outback.

Anonymous
3rd March 2005, 06:47 PM
trade in an outback or forrester for an astra???

hehehe, i dont see it happening.

SmellyTofu
3rd March 2005, 06:49 PM
Actually, I don't own the Outback.. I just drive one but I'd gladly trade in the Astra for a Liberty.

-sorry i revoke that - after looking at the photos from the motor show, they show leather....

maybe its an option..

I'm a bit surprised that there's no mentioning of the CDC/IDS(+) anywhere. It's standard on the Turbos over here, and they would leave out the best part of it... :|

Edit:

Nice interior, no?

GOZOFF - according to carsguide they ARE relaesing the topless Tigra.

JP Dyno
4th March 2005, 11:55 AM
in the Holden press release it says they plan to release the models on show later in the year. thats means the tigra, turbo and wagon. all of them.

Its a pity it gets the same 147kw engine..and the bodykit is not as nice as the OPC one. We probably loose out on alot. Climate Control is a nice bonus though...

It the current MOTOR Mag i got in the mail today it says Holdesn business case for bringing in the 176kw OPC Astra didnt hold up, saying it would have to cost roughly $63000. Sucks to be us. lol

Mr T
4th March 2005, 01:45 PM
I was investigating bringing one (OPC) in from Ireland or south africa but the cost was going to be about $50-55K, I made the same decision as Holden - Not Worth It ! ! !

I hate the aussie market for bloody cars....... We miss out on the good options, good pricing and standard options too.....
If the wagon was turbo, i'd consider, i don't like the 3 door turbo...
IF they DO bring the zafira OPC version (i mean the proper OPC version) i'd head down to my holden dealer tomorrow....... talk about a nice car ;)

If only opel had the common sense to make it available off the showroom floor, they would dominate the "hot micro hatch" market.

The new VXR Astra will have 240 bhp and will be released here in the UK during summer, the SXi SRi models are being released April, the large optional windscreen looks nice and not to expensive either, wouldnt mind trading my new SRi in for the new sports hatch

aussie_in_london
8th March 2005, 10:46 PM
New tigra looks nice and sporty, nothing bigger than a 1.8 16v engine though, i like the alloy effect around the spotties, the new astra SRi should have had the same, price wise over here, no more expensive that the new Astra.

Molky
9th March 2005, 12:53 PM
Being in Melbourne last week for the F1, I got to the motorshow on Thursday night and I must say I was most impressed with the new SRi Turbo. Personally I reckon that the new 3 door looks so much better than the 5 door. It feels very cosy to sit in, with lots of metal all around with big C pillars and a tiny rear window. The gearshift of the new 6 speed feels really nice (from what you can tell from a car thats not moving)

If I wasn't so in love with my current car I would certainly putting down my deposit for one 8)

Highly doubt we will get the CDC/IDS+ system here....same goes for the windscreen that goes back to C pillars....we always miss out

Shame about the new turbo having same driveline as te old excpet for a new 6 speed, especially seeing the car is now heavier

I'd save my money and get a Vectra CDXi manual......They are an animal!! anyone else driven one?

does anyone have a price for the SRi turbo yet?

The bloke at the Holden stand who I was speaking to said between $35k and $40k, so at a guess it will be a little it more than the old one

zoidberg
15th March 2005, 10:30 PM
it looks nice....better than the 4 door

although the body kit doesn't look as agressive as the previous model. The TS model turbo's looked like a HSV version of the Astra (dramatic looks). where as the TS SRi 2.2L just had a skirt stuck on the front of it......to me the AH Turbo looks like this.

but still, its a nice looking car

I read today that HSV is looking at importing the OPC 180odd kw version, fully rebadged as a HSV, could be interesting

I reckon with the 6 speed it might go a little better, if the ratios are sorted out well.

Adrian
3rd May 2005, 08:43 AM
I heard a few rumors, one is that it will be $55,000 and trying to compete with the likes of the STI, aparantly it will have like 175kw.

I also heard that it will be almost identical to the old SRiT however it will have a 6 speed manual gear box and be $40,000 + onroads etc...

auzvectra
3rd May 2005, 05:45 PM
apparently, the standard "H" sri-t will have a slightly faster 0-100 time, but it didnt say nething bout the 400m.
i'm sure it would be quicker, but i dont care, it's a stonger engine and i want the 6 speed!
will have a look back through all the info i got on it, n give some figures.
what does the "G" sri-t pull standard 0-100kmh?

Nem
3rd May 2005, 06:53 PM
it does have a 6 speed manual...
I'd hang on to my current Astra and buy an wrecked six speed assuming its the F28 and drop it in. :D

auzvectra
3rd May 2005, 07:33 PM
only 20kg heavier!
1283-1308!!
who cares.
less than 2% more weight, with just under 5% more torque, why is that bad?
and a more rigourlesly tested motor.
lasting like 20 times as long as the Z20LET, the Z20LER is a much stronger motor!

auzvectra
3rd May 2005, 07:37 PM
oops 1323, 40kgs heavier.
just over 3% heavier.

they are a nice looking car the 3 door, have seen a few on the road now.
We are trading in our 5 door SRi Astra H later this year for the 2 door 177kw vxr astra when they are released around Aug, but will have to wait 3 months for delivery, nice xmas present

Shame the SRi T we are gonna get will just have stick on spoilers rather than completly different and completly different looking front and rear bars....cheap!

no different in body kit to whats on the 2 door astra thats here in the UK and Europe
only the VXR & OPC astra will have the different front and rear which if Holden take delivery of will most probably be badged HSV maybe

zoidberg
14th May 2005, 12:15 PM
Yeah i know. Our Astra G Turbo's got the different front and rear bars. The H's we are gonna get are like our G Sri 2.2L's.....stick on bits

aussie_in_london
14th May 2005, 08:11 PM
Astra G turbo over here is the GSi which does have the different front and rear to the astra G SRi turbo, which makes the GSi on a similiar level to the vxr & opc spec models in the H, The SRi H is not the top spec model and hence the standard opel designed body kit. Interesting enough the astra H 3 door door sports SRi has the less powered turbo engine than the 5 door SRi model ( in the UK & Europe)
170 bhp for the 3 door
170 & 200 bhp engines for the 5 door
