View Full Version : IDEA: 2005 Opel Australia National Meeting.

Anonymous
24th February 2004, 08:34 PM
I got this idea due to getting a call from the Isuzu Car Club President, He asked If I could Organise the Isuzu Driving Mexicans for a National Meeting This Year.
So I though Phuck it, Lets Try get a Opel Australia/CorsaSport/Yadda Yadda National Meeting On the Cards.
I was Thinking,Show n Shine with Trophies(I know Gunna Cost) For Each Catergory E.G: Best Original Corsa, Best Modified Corsa. Yadda Yadda, Right thru all models that Attend.
Depending on where its held, We could get driving Events(Non Hardcore) like a Motorkhana or Spear a Spud.
And on the Last Night have a Dinner Presentation of Trophies.
If it held on a Long Weekend, It could be a Great National Put a Name to face Meeting.

OPINIONS:
Feel free to shit Can my Dream. :)
Post where ya think it should be Held.(I was thinking Canberra or Adelaide)
Other ideas
GO MENTAL. :D

I like the idea, I have to say. Would it be fair to say that most of the people on this board are in Sydney or Melbourne? If that's the case then Canberra would have to be a better choice of location than Adelaide as far as getting people to turn up goes.

I agree , canberra would be a good spot.
And i like the idea , would be a organising monster , but im sure well worth it.
Id be keen to meet the members from interstate and check out the cars in the flesh !

Glad to see the Idea hasn't been shot down in Flames.
I know its going to be a Hard Task to organise. It won't happen overnight but it will happen.
The last Isuzu Nats we didn't have Driving Events. Only a Show N Shine., But we did manage Some Japanese Isuzu Owners to come over and It was a Great weekend held 2 Rydges Resort in Canberra. The was approx 40 People and around 30 Cars.
Things I can up with so far @ Work:
Show N Shine: Entrants vote on whom wins, No Judges. Its People Choice.
Parts Trading This will happen anyway, As a Lunch Time BBQ thing people bring Parts and Trade Them.
Cruise Go for a Cruise some where on Saturday Night, Be good to see all the States together and Cruise.
Photography Session Everyone puts there Alone, So it can be Photographed by other entrants and Attendees.

If ya have anyother ideas Bring them.

maybe we could have it during the xmas period, or over easter so the most amount of people can come. we don't want to have it when people have work commitments.

If we wait till after June 2005, I might be there for real - that is I am standing for the senate as representing the Veterans of Australia.
www.esvp.asn.au will show you where I am coming from.
However as this is not a political forum, I shall content myself as saying I would support a Canberra Rally.

We could a Get a Jumping Castle. I know ya can get a Jumping Jeep, So We should get a Jumping Opel/Vauxhall of some sort.

Now that I see that there is an interest And So far Canberra sounds like the Place. Rydges Resort on Federal Hwy heading towards Sydney is a Good Venue, It has Pools and Gym(Like we need that  ) A Bar and Restaurant(We need that :P ) And Large Grass Area to do the Show and Shine, Car Washing Area, BBQ Area. From Memory it cost for 2 nights $50 per Person(Year 2000) and that Included all Falcilties(Gym and Pool,Etc) And Meals from Restaurant, Bar tab went on ya Final Bill. So say $100 Per person and thats Having a Wicked time Drinking(If ya not Driving) + BBQ and what ever ya Buy in Canberra :D (Fyshwick here I come again)

i was at the rydges resort this year and it was crap for the money.... i know next year when im in canberra i will not be going back to rydges..... the rooms are like a 35 dollar a night hotel... i payed 130 bucks a night.. there spa is a cheap above ground type that you can buy for 5 grand anywhere... mind you the bbq area was good... another thing is you cant park you car near the room most of the time...

Rydges Resort was just an Idea coz I have stayed there, National Capital Village virtually across from Exhibition Park is OK. But there its only Bungalows and If its Hot, The room will be 4 times hotter
This idea of mine isn't going to happen very soon, I need/Want Help and Ideas. We could ask John Coward for our Tax Dollars back and stay at the Lodge.

Sounds like an interesting idea - but it's going to be a huge pain in the arse to organise and getting people to commit to it this early (not just saying it) might be a bit hard.
But i'm all for the idea, i think it would be awesome if it actually happened.

As far as places to stay goes, Rydges Eaglehawk doesn't have a stellar reputation around here. Also, there are literally dozens of good spots to park a lot of cars in Canberra, so there's not really a need to have a hotel with that facility.

One thing that would work in favour of the Christmas period is that just about everyone in Canberra goes somewhere else (although this is probably also true of Easter, to a lesser extent) - this is mainly because hardly anyone is actually from Canberra, we all came here from somewhere else.

I wasnt asking for People to commit them selves now. I was just throwing up the Idea and seeing who catch it. I'm liking the Disscusion here about the is Hair Brained Idea keep the Ideas and Such coming.
As for Canberra, It is a Boring Place.
Adelaide is a Bit Far from QLD and NSW.
We could always have it in Albury
When we can settle on a Venue and City, Then I'll try get some people to Help out.
Where'd ya reckon?

We could get like a big lodge or something, they'll have heaps of parking there, and the roads are nuts.

Thats a Issue we'll have to discuss. I don't wanna Bunk Bed.
It has to be Double Bed for me and my Female Driver for the weekend.

There's a place on the Snowy Mountains Highway between Cooma and Adaminaby that is basically a bunch of cabins on a lot of land - maybe this sort of thing could be the go (although I can't remember what it's called and I haven't stayed there - Samvac does your book have anything like this?). Anyway it didn't seem like the sort of place to have bunk beds or anything like that. But there are probably dozens of places we could stay in decent accommodation.

As for the price range, it's not too important to me as I may be inclined to stay in Canberra at my place instead (as it's only 60-90 minutes away), but I probably wouldn't want to spend much more than say...$70 a night? It would also depend on how long we were staying for. Any thoughts on that?

I agree that it cant be Pricey, But that Place ya mentioned sounds Good.

Anonymous
3rd March 2004, 10:51 PM
Yeah i dont want to be spending too much on accomadation, but usually dont places do group discounts or something. If we tell them that we are having a national meet and have chosen THEIR place as the place to stay, they'll feel priveledged and should (hopefully) make it cheaper.

Anonymous

just out of curiosity, wouldnt canberra be easier?

to start with you can get fireworks,
second you dont have to F$%^ around with antifreeze
third you dont need to mess with snowchains

and 4th, to us young clowns with no NCB in 2 door coupes who cant afford full comprehensive insurance it would be much more attractive to drive around a place where there is no issue of snow or ice on the road...

Just my 2cents and im not chucking a hissy fit, was just wondering why we had shifted from canberra to the snow...

Anonymous
6th March 2004, 08:25 AM
i dont think we'll be there in the peak season, it would cost to much....

i think our intentions were to go during the off season, when its a more pleasant temp... 8)

Anonymous
6th March 2004, 08:41 AM
If we go to the Snowy Mountains, It WON'T be in during the Snow Season for a few Reason. 1.) Too $$$$ for Accomodation 2.) Too Cold 3.) Too Dangerous for Driving.
Canberra still sounds Good, Us Mexicans can't Buy Fireworks :( Because we get checked at the Border now for Drugs  Fireworks  and Fruit  which is Pretty is rare. But it has happened to me and Mates coming back from Summernats, $200 fine for a Half Eaten apple under his seat that had been there since 1970.

But Snowy Mountains and Canberra are only Ideas at this stage.
