Hi , Names Ken and I'm from Brisbane . The reason I joined the forum is because my 18 year old son picks up a 2004 astra hatch this arvo.

He's a 1st year mechanic so has a few options at work with servicing etc. I've driven the car and it goes well. Only has 70 odd thousand on it that checked out. He's up for

the timing belt, tensioner and water pump which shouldn't present a problem with the resource available to him. What irks me a bit is there's so many negative reviews out their

on internet world and its food for thought. . Anyway I'm up for your views on the negative reviews.

One thing seems strange is there's so many for sale with between 250 and 300k on the clock. Not bad at all.

On the other hand some have said it's the best car they have ever had. Anyway thanks in advance, ken

Welcome Ken, biggest problem is these are an interference motor so if maintainence isn't kept up, a broken belt will trash a motor. Always do the water pump and tensioners with the timing belt. Ask a few guys here how hard it can be to get waterpumps out when they're not replaced.
Best of luck to your son. They're a great motor, i run one in the race car.

Thanks for the detailed response sskustomz. lucky for my son is that his foreman is a trade qualified Holden mechanic.
I want him to get a good run out of this car. Kind regards ken. PS I will keep you updated.
