Wheels Magazine States 0-100 9.1 Seconds and 16.6 Seconds down the Qtr Mile for both the Corsa & Astra SRi's - Dead Even

Havent had any personal experience with an Astra SRi

find that doubtful.....wouldn't the corsa win cause it's lighter?

i've heard it's very close - but you's expect that what with the weight difference and all.

Astra SRi -
Weight - 1720Kgs
Power - 108Kw
Torque - 203nm
Power to Weight = 15.93kgs per kw

Barina SRi -
Weight - 1088 KGs
Power - 92kw
Torque - 165nm
Power to Weight = 11.83kgs per kw

But thats just for the sake of comparison. Both weights are manual and standard packages.

Brett

i think you meant 1220kg not 1720kg?

Sorry... couldn't resist....

Astra SRi turbo -
Weight - 1282Kgs
Power - 147Kw
Torque - 250nm
Power to Weight = 8.72kgs per kw

lowey22

so 1220kg would make 11.29kgs per kw

Astra Sri = 1172kg.
meaning it has a slight kW/kg advantage

It has a more meaningful torque advantage though.

Astra slighty in Front (with Traction Control Off)
End Of 1st Gear: Astra in Front by a Bees Penis
End Of 2nd Gear: Astra in Front by Quarter Car Length
End of 3rd Gear: Barina Looking at My Tail Lights

Technically speaking... while the Barina has less weight... it also looses out on a fair chunk of torque from the extra 400cc the Astra has.

The only way of knowing is putting the same driver in both cars down a propper strip and timing him..... but otherwise... I would imagine it fairly close.

What sort of "race" is it Gildo? Straight line or around corners? Street or track?

Irrespective of the location it will come down to driver ability more than anything else.

Mind you I think the whole concept of comparing 2 different cars in a forum like this is a waste of time as all it does is promote a "my car is better than yours" attitude that ends up going around in circles.

So why bother?

I think the astra vs barina - the astra technically (specs wise) will win, but if it doesn't win in the 0-100, it will win after it hits 3rd with extra torque and the gearing working for it.... :)

However, i must admit, both with heavily modified suspension, etc i think the barina would have a handling advantage due to weight and balence :)
