I have no one favorite brand... but some of my favoured are:

Kicker
Boston Accoustics
Raindbow
Tru Technology
Audison
Infinity
IDMAX
Focal
Hertz

I also do like Blaupunkt as a good 'budget' brand. I'm particularly fond of them after using a Blaupunkt Burning Desire amp and a Kicker L7 '10 sub to pull 143db from an install both myself and Grantis took about 20 hours to build and wire. No sound deadening at all... and *only* 800wrms too!

JVC H/units - best bang for buck headunits by a big margin

JL Audio subs

Crossfire Amps - hold official record as loudest amps in the world consistently

LOL...

where do we begin?

Soundstream,
Boston Acoustics
MB Quart (Not the newer cheapy stuff)
Orion
Nakamichi
ADS (yum yum)
and..here's a new one,

whilst in Japan I saw a Panasonic double din headunit.
it had, wait for it, VALVES! and twin VU metres, but, it only came in gold....

and for the JDM, it cost between 2-3K (AUD)...considering decent headunits JDM over there are ~1K AUD, i'd imagine it'd be pretty spesh...oh, and I also saw some yummy Orion and Denon units.

New G5 subs are pretty good Tai

I haven't heard them yet, got turned off their subs a couple of years ago while testing a 12", it was way too boomy and inaccurate for me and having to use large boxes was the nail in the coffin

I know the unit you are talking off- according to most people I know who have played with this a bit, the valve is only there to look pretty.

The G5s just arrived in the country, if you'd like to demo one I know the dude that has the first to land on our shores and can arrange something if you're interested. Spanks pretty hard and quite efficient too- they start at 1cu.ft. as optimized enclosure for the 12".

They changed over the "large box" recommendations with the LF series, which was predecessor to the new one.

The IDMAX is a damn beauty of a sub, must be the most accurate high spl sub
