You're right, but no doubt some wanker will put a Chev badge on one.

Even more alarming is the news the next commodore will be a rebadged insignia

Yeah, that'll be a bogan's worst nightmare. Well, next to having his Centrelink payments cut off anyway.

Since the quick coming and then going of Opel in Australia, this is at least good news...

They're only showing the OPC are other variants not going to be brought in ??

Speaking of re-badging I was all set to finally jump the fence and do it to my TS vert when Opel set up shop here, that to me was all the justification needed to Opelise since the brand would eventually become recognised, was never keen on the idea before that...

Will be a little odd seeing both GMH and Opel badged AJ Astras in future from all the ones that were sold whilst Opel was here...

Thanks Pete

Was wondering more about the AJ Astra model range though...hopefully they'll have the complete line up not just the OPC, for me the Astra has always been one of the best everyday cars on the road would love to see them back.

The Cascada is a hot looking thing, if I didn't already have a vert I'd seriously look at getting one :)

It seems the photo has also been flipped for RHD config! Would be nice to see the full range here, though.

Lol shows how much of a joke and waste of time having Opel here was. If the OPC Astra launched at that price point I'd have one, as would many other people.

GM are a joke.

you're right Pete. They were crying foul they couldn't do anything about the pricing and competitors prices were much lower hence pulling out was the only option. So is a Holden badge 10.000 dollars cheaper than an Opel badge ? cause that is the only difference.

Started at $43,990 plus on roads and options.

$4k difference at the minimum, interested to see what they're doing with options.

Needless to say, I'm still not impressed with the way GM handled Opel in Aus.

Also note the claimed fuel consumption is 8.0/L instead of the "Opel" model being 8.1

I think us Opel owners will be stuck with old sat Nav maps because it sounds like a different system been the mylink, maybe if we hassel them enough we will be able to get the mylink retro fitted at cost or something.

i wouldn't mind to pay a bit either to get a new system with more updated maps. So who's going to give the guy a call that used to work at Opel but now works at Holden ?

There's another guy who worked at Opel, I spoke to him on the phone before and his name was on some of the letters sent, also had some email correspondence before they blocked me, think he worked at customer service or something. He now works at Holden hq.

From what I'm reading the current VXR is exactly the same as the OPC when Opel was in Australia. Just with lion badges and much sharper pricing!

Gary works at a dealership. Im pretty sure its Barloworld Holden in Glen Waverley but keep second guessing myself

IIRC, when Holden were selling the Astra here in Aus, the sportier variants were not making the usual Holden profit mark-up. I'm guessing that they'll be doing the same thing with this new set of Astra's. As they're already bringing in the Insignia, then no problem just throwing a couple of the sportier Astras into the same boat.
I'm a bit sad, mine set me back $42K (including onroads), but the VXR's look to be even better value.

Not 'exactly' the same. Looks like the Holden one has tyre pressure monitors (useful IMO) and front parking sensors (useful as long as it's not raining).

Also has the MyLink multimedia system and only comes in one spec (20s, no AFL), what you see is what you get. Pick a color and thats it.

Your $42k was still good. The Holden variant is $39,990 + ORC so Victorians will end up paying closer to $50k

edit: just realised i mentioned the spec in an earlier post (cant keep track of my own shit)
On a related note (i mentioned it in the spam thread but not everyone hangs around in there):

I went into my local Holden dealer and they had a white VXR on display there. The chick there was so ditzy. I thought I would humor myself and ask what she knows about the car. In a nutshell, this is what I was told:

- Its a 1.6 turbo
- It is the HSV model
- It is very different to the Opel model
- It will come in 3 variants - The VX, the VR, and the VXR

Needless to say, she clearly did zero research before the car arrived.....

Only the Cascada is at my local Holden, they're too focussed on HSVs

hahaha i wouldnt be surprised.

Oh i forgot to also mention. she was prepared to give it to me for $40k driveaway  I asked her what the driveaway cost was and she said $39,990. I told her that was the RRP minus any onroads. She started to argue with me and tell me that it was definitely $40k drive away. I swear if i was in the market i would have signed the dotted line there and then !!
