View Full Version : Astra G SRi-T wheels

I have discovered since purchasing Ahyoka that the front left tire seems to have a slow puncture and so the tires that I thought might last 3,000km more are probably just going out the door ASAP. If I'm getting new tires, I'm also getting new rims as the ones on there are quite hammered from 10 years of the previous owner guttering them in the city on an apparent regular basis.:cryin:

I want a nice set of rims, and I don't want to wander too far out from stock specifications. From what I understand they are 17x7.5" ET49 with a 5x110 and the stock tires are 215/40R17?

I have found a set that I like in 17x8 ET48 5x110 and was wondering if I would have any issues running a 225/40R17 tire on stock ride height. And would I start to run into any issues with a mild lowering later down the line if I wanted to go down that path?

To me it sounds like it should all check out within standard leeway, but I want to bounce it off those of you who have changed rims on an Astra G before.

that offset should be okayish. would need to have it mounted on car and see how close it comes to front struts as it will be bloody close.
also don't expect to be able to go full lock at they will hit on inner wheel wells.

for tyres you want to run 215 40 or 215 45 at the largest. 225 will just give issues.

IMHO stick to 7.5 wide especially if you want to be able to drive the car without scrubbing everywhere. I'm speaking from experience here.

Ah alright, so there really isn't much clearance room for playing on these in stock form. I know some cars you can go wider than stock and wider tires without scrubbing if you are reasonable with the offset and haven't slammed it.

This wheel shopping is actually really hard. Every time I find a set I like, it either doesn't come in anything less than 8" wide in 17" or else they don't offer them in 5x110. And if by some magic I find something that meets all those it has a weird offset that won't work.

Thanks for the feedback!

So these places are quite deceptive then. They reckon the OZ Racing Alleggerita HLTs in 17x8 with 225/40R17 tire would fit. Although I see they do say those are +40 offset.

http://wheels.beaurepaires.com.au/holden/2003/astra_3_dr_hatchback_ts/oz_racing/17inch

Surely they shouldn't advertise or sell something that would scrub or make contact?

guy 27
22nd July 2014, 11:39 PM
Oh it will fit but it will also scrub a tiny bit at stock height.

if you want to lower at all then you really gotta start doing the math and even have to do body modifications to make them work.

I'm contemplating rolling my front guards further out and trimming out a fair chunk of the arch lining to make mine a bit nicer to drive with.

Raisin

Hmmm, ok well I guess that's as far as I'm going to get tonight. I'll look around some more tomorrow. Lowering the car isn't on the cards yet as it already seems to be lower than my Corsa and that just barely clears some of the driveways and parking ramps I have to navigate for work.

I'm not sure what you thinks of these or if they will suit.

If your hard pressed I'm selling my old VXR 19s too adam_92 has two on his SRiT because of all the flats he has been getting and said he hasn't had any issues with scrubbing. He has b8s and eibach sportlines (50/30) so may be an option not sure how much work you would need to do on the front.

I have scrubbed a little bit. Only with a completely full tank of fuel, sub in the boot, a shit load of electrical cable in the boot and back seat for work and 2 18" wheels and tyres which are punctured. Even then I only scrub on big bumps/dips in the road.

Also worth noting that they have the ah tyre size on them still which is bigger than the ts.

Thanks for the offer, but I really want to stick with 17's for the car. If I could get a set I like the look of in 17x7.5 5x110 ET49 I would buy them in a heartbeat and slap some 214/40R17 tires on it and be happy, but so far it has proven difficult. A few are close matches but miss out on checking 1 or 2 boxes so it's just a matter of finding something that's close enough to the original dimensions that won't be an issue with any scrubbing or fouling.

I have looked at Enkei, Rays/Volk, 5Ziggen, Work, OZ Racing and BBS. I either couldn't find a design I liked or else the wheel wasn't offered in a suitable spec. Some of them are admittedly hard to check out with poorly setup sites and spec sheets in another language or vague at best. So I may still hunt a bit deeper and try find if something will work. I will post up some designs later on with the style I'm after.

Also have a look at ozzy tyres. If you find a set of wheels that you like they get blanks and drill them to a 5x110 stud pattern

I think I'm going to contact these guys http://www.amgaustralia.com/ and http://www.jdmwheelimports.com.au/ to see what I can get through them. I don't know if they'd be able to get me blanks of one of the ones I like. Otherwise I'll also be looking at Team Dynamics, I know a few of you have them though so I don't want to jump the gun and copy you guys too quickly. ;)

These Enkei PF01SS in Matte Black would be my first choice.

What kin of pricing do they usually run do you know?

Some of the prices I've seen range between $500-$650 per wheel. Definitely not cheap, but I figure I can splash out on some nice rims once in my life on my dream car.

Need 18's to clear the front brakes, but still am happy with the design of the SF01

These are also quite close to the Enkei's I really like.
http://www.koya.com.au/?cars=cr-tek-1718big-brake-compatible

What frustrates me is that I see they do an 18x7.5 but not a 17x7.5, there the smallest they go is a 17x8. Why do they have to be so arbitrary with their dimension options!?

Raisin
28th July 2014, 09:54 PM
Ok so I think I've settled on one of these two in 17x8. I can get the CR TEKs in 17x8 ET44 or the Drift TEKs in 17x8 ET42. And then I'll just get 215/40R17 tires, they will be slightly stretched but it shouldn't be too bad I would think. Atleast not enough to look like a Hellaflush wannabe?

CR TEK
http://www.koya.com.au/?cars=cr-tek-1718big-brake-compatible
Drift TEK
http://www.koya.com.au/?cars=drift-tek-black-1718

I think I'm leaning more towards the CR TEK ones, I think they will look better on the Astra.

Opinions?

Enkeis are a little more RACECAR/Evo spec, but of those two Koyas, I'd choose the CR TEK.

I had to give up on the Enkei's as they are a 5x114.3 not 5x110 like I thought. Not sure how I mixed that up.

So I ended up going for a set of Work CR-Kiwami wheels which are an updated version of the Work CR-Kai wheels. These are what the Koya CR-TEKs are a copy of. When I weighed it all up the genuine article was only slightly more than the knockoffs so there was no real reason to cheap out. I am getting the Kiwami's in 17x8 +47 and they are custom drilling them in 5x110 for me. They also told me there are no blanks in that size available at the moment so they need to make a set specially for me. When I heard this I was worried they would be asking $3k+ for the set and was ready to give up, but they quoted me $1530 including the special order, custom drilling, shipping and taxes as well as full insurance on the wheels. Biggest down side is that it's going to take 5-6 months for delivery.

Great choice! Good price too!

Who did you buy them through?

I bought them through JDMConcept. http://www.jdmconcept.com.au

I just sent an email to [email protected] and asked what sizes they could offer in the Kiwami wheels. Leonardy responded really quickly during business hours so I was able to discuss the options and make the choice.

They also told me the other day that the center bore is 65.1mm which is great for the Astra as I won't need any rings to center it.
