Guys,
eddysdaman recently received a phonecall from the guy who bought his old VXR off him. It was stolen recently. Here is the info from the OA Facebook page:

So just got an interesting phone call from the dude who bought my old car. He's an international student and has been home for the past few months, but he recently came back to find his place broken into, safe raided, and car stolen. If you've seen it, or see any *unique* Astra VXR parts flying around let me know or message him on the number listed. Reward for any info leading to it coming back. Last seen abandoned around the Sunshine area on the 12th of Feb.

Haha beat me to it. was gonna do it later tonight cause I'm about to step out - thanks!

Obviously, I don't owe him anything in helping find it, but I sure owe it to the car for all the fun we had. I miss her :(

Wow not cool. I know I'm in sa but I'll keep a look out for parts

If be worried about perhaps the robber transferring the the rego to his name. In the time the owner wasn't home.

If he has managed to do that, we'll be thanking him soon for providing TMR with name, address, and contact details.

Did he say where it was found?

Hopefully its just a matter of a good polish, some rim repair, and a new front bar

Yeah but you never know how the engine was treated in the time it was away. Likely had the beejeezus thrashed out of it.

Effectively in impound. Was towed and because he was overseas no one could get in touch with him. When he called me all he had done was lodge a police report, so I told him to make sure he calls the council and vicroads to see if anything had been towed from being abandoned (after Steve saw it) and hey presto. Found. Downside, he had to pay over $1000 to get it back from the guys who towed and 'stored' it and then to boot he's not insured. So at least from his side, no dodgeyness and I feel bad for the guy. He should have known better but I don't think he's shy of a penny.

Poor guy.

With car security so good these days, either stealing the keys or towing it is the only way to steal cars.

Overseas student?

Fortunately this is the case for a lot of cars (especially European), but not for all...

Most stolen cars in Australia (short term):
1. Hyundai Excel X3
2. Holden Commodore VT
3. Holden Commodore VE
4. Toyota Hilux MY05_11
5. Holden Commodore VN
6. Ford Falcon BA
7. Ford Falcon AU
8. Holden Commodore VX
9. Holden Commodore VS
10. Toyota Camry SV21

Most stolen cars in Australia (for profit):
1. Holden Commodore VT
2. Toyota Hilux MY98_04
3. Holden Commodore VX
4. Holden Commodore VE
5. Toyota Hilux MY89_97
6. Toyota Hilux MY05_11
7. Holden Commodore VY
8. Holden Commodore VS
9. Hyundai Excel X3
10. Ford Falcon BA

...and clearly some are just plain magnets!

How the hell can someone profit from a VT Commodore? They are worth $3.50 at the most

Who bothers to steal an excel? why would anyone want anything to do with it?
Is it just to make the owners happier?

Cheaper than a taxi to get from part of town to another.
