Has anyone had there Opel go into limp mode like this ?

Mines had a few dramas but has never left me stranded or limped.

I had the same issue with my old VL Calais. The factory alarm would immobilise the car and had to open the glove box and smack the key override barrel. Always seemed to do it pulling out into traffic

my 2006 Polo GTI was recalled back in 2011 advising that the coil pack was known to die suddenly, causing the car to cut out. No, I was not contacted but thankfully someone on one of the VW forums mentioned their experience which prompted me to call my dealer and look it up. Hasnt skipped a beat since.

All VW vehicles with a DSG gearbox built from last year onwards come with a 5 year warranty now. Although reading all of the media articles, it seems that they consistently try to blame the customer. VW arent the only ones to do this though. Ive heard stories from people owning other vehicle brands and copping the same treatment.

There is another member on here who used to own an R36. Was a bloody awesome car, until they dicked him around blaming him for tuning the car when it was completely stock (DSG went on it).

I wonder how much this media frenzy will affect the sales of the new Golf 7. Also, ill be interested to hear the findings of that girl that died on the Monash where they claim it lost power also.

No issues with my 6 speed.

Most issues relate to the 1.4 twincharged 7 speed DSG

Volkswagen head office's attitude is unsurprising in those stories - it's exactly what I experienced with my car (as hazrd has said) - the dealers are in the same boat too - I actually felt sorry for the service manager at the end of my saga because his hands were tied as well.

Just heard on the radio the coroner is asking vw to come clean about it.

"Volkswagen did not return Fairfax Media's calls yesterday"

Seriously, why do they have a media department?

Faith restored? Yes? No? What do you think?

It doesn't matter now. Too little too late, the damage has been done.

At least existing owners will have their DSGs replaced.

Should also be good for me to claim on goodwill if something happens to my DSG, even though it's now out of warranty for 3 years.

Not for me, never.

The disappointing thing is, your Passat was within the year that they listed as affected

Does the recall include 6 speed dsg? For some reason I thought it was the 7 speed box only.

I'm pretty sure it's only the lower torque capacity 7 speed.

Nonetheless, I think with the bad publicity, they'll assist with faulty 6 speed units, which they sometimes did even prior this recall.

Only now after the bad publicity. Before they spent more energy trying to make the owner feel like it was their fault, not vw 'faultless' engineering.

All good mate, and you could never be as bad as vw Australia customer relations staff.

Hate to say it John but given how long it took them to admit this problem exists, I suspect they will continue to deny any knowledge of issues with the 6

There any issues with the 6 speed? lol

I understand there are also problems with the 6 speed but in far lesser, but still significant numbers.

If something does happen to my 6 speed (I pray it lasts until I sell mine) I hope VW would assist, I've heard stories where they have (a few years of warranty). Then again you have VW treating Pete like trash.

I wouldn't sell my GTI to anyone I like (like most of my cars)! lol not that anything material has gone wrong with it or it's unreliable (touch wood), but I would look shady if it broke down after I sold it.

FYI, the stronger 6 speed in the GTI has been around since 2004.

It sounds like there are far less issues with the 6 speed, and you hear stories of people putting way more than the 350Nm its rated at through the gearbox with no issues. Of course there are plenty of stories of mechatronic units being replaced on the 6 speed on teh VW forums, and weirder stuff like what happened to me.

There still are issues with the 6 speed, that's why they have 10 year warranty on the DSG overseas thanks to litigation happy Americans.

They don't. The powertrain warranty in the USA is the same as here now. 5yrs/60,000mi.
The 10yr Chinese warranty is only valid is you ALWAYS take your car to a VW dealer for servicing.

I knew there would be a catch on a warranty that long !!

10 year warranty on some DSGs in the USA (I never mentioned the powertrain)
