Barry Smith Motors advised me that my ECU is faulty. They already replaced the original ECU at 93000km, (now 100000) 4 years ago and the car is now running perfectly after fuel filter replacement and throttle body cleaning today. 2 days ago I interrogated the ECU using straightened hairclip on terminals 5&6 and read 2 codes "knock sensor" and "HEGO sensor". Do I really need to do anything about these sensors? The engine certainly does not "Ping". Can I clean the HEGO sensor myself? If yes, where is it? I do not intend to spend $1000+ for another ECU if I can avoid it. What are the likely consequences if I take the risk?

Many thanks for any advice.

Knock sensor best off replacing.
o2 sensor again best of replacing with a new item. You can try cleaning it by removing a cleaning in fresh petrol but don't expect it to always work perfectly. They are a servicable item that are to be replaced. There are 2 on your car. one on the manifold and another further down the system past the cat.

Neither of these fault codes mean the ecu needs replacing.
