Ok now I'm at the stage of painting my rims but I'm stuck between 2 colours

1. Gloss black
2. Anthracite grey

Mind you anthracite grey has about 30 different colour combinations at our local inspirations paint shop from all different manufactures (GMH, Toyota, voltswagon etc)

Car is painted smoke grey

What are your suggestions? Any anthracites recommended?

I would say 1 only because the car is grey as well but I love the 2

Thinking I will go anthracite grey BMW have one I liked

To get the fleck through it, the paint would have to be 2k right?

I have no idea tbh lol. I gave him the rims and asked for anthracite and picked them up with that bonus addition to it

IMO definitely antharcite (any shade) over black... :)

It'll look nicer regardless of car colour compared with black, it'll keep cleaner compared to black and if they're very pretty rims they'll stand out and look alot nicer compared with black rims...

I've seen alot of very nice design and expensive custom rims finished off in black and unless your face is right up next to them you can't see the beauty and detail of it all which defeats the whole purpose in the first place, so really cannot see the fascination of black rims...

Here it is the colour BMW Anthracite grey, not overly sunny so can't see the green sparkle metallic through it, once on car will get much better pictures

I just remembered I need new centre caps where is the best place to get these, anywhere apart from eBay?

Good choice on the colour :)

Can't really tell from that pic but what's the finish like ??? there seems to be a lump on the upper spoke ??

Curious to know as I've had numerous rims painted/powder coated etc. etc. over the years for many cars by many different paint shops wheel repairers etc. etc. and none have ever turned out great or least ever close to the quality of the finish from factory produced rims...

The finish isn't 100% but being my first set I've painted I think I got 95% I'm really happy with the achievement dispite the fact I got them from a wreckers they had 10 years worth of crap all over them deep scratches aswell as minor chips, in future ild do prep work again but when it comes to doing mattallics using clear coats I think I'll leave it to the proffessionals to paint to get that 100%,

The indent in the top Spoke I honestly can't explain it, I didn't even notice it lol

Definitely a good result for DIY, but just be careful of the professionals when it comes to doing rims especially if they're going to use colours like hyper silver or shadow chromes or even some shades of gun metal greys, I've never seen any of them that could achieve a result close to factory produced rims and there's always blemmishes as well even companies that specialise in this (I've dealt with 2) still couldn't get the right results even though they claim they could...

I've since learnt that wheel manufacturers use very specialised paints/coatings and specialised operational procedures to get the results they do, even some high end aftermarket wheel manufacturers still don't get that perfect result, I've seen a set 15k HRE rims with a questionable painted finish...

I came across another panel beater who told me he could get a hold of some 'genuine' hyper silver wheel paint and charged me a small fortune for both the paint and the labour to do 4 rims of mine, but the result was still not good, no where near as good as another set of rims of the same colour off the shelf...:(
