Was just in deep thought and researching private importation of vehicles. Checking out the SEVS (Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicle Scheme) register at http://rvcs-prodweb.dot.gov.au/sevs/sevsindex.htm. This list basically provides a list of vehicles that have been approved to be imported for public consumption. It's also the scheme that is responsible for seeing so many of the Japanese imports.

What really caught my eye, was the cars listed under Vauxhall. There's the Ampera, Astra J, Insignia, Corsa D, Astravan H/C and Meriva B. All these vehicles can be imported under SEVS if they were manufactured prior to the 4th July 2012. Now, if the vehicles are currently available here to purchase from new, they become ineligible under SEVS rules. Which makes sense for the Astra J, Insignia and Corsa D models. The Amperas equivalent will be the Holden Volt when it lands, so that explains the end date on SEVS. What it doesn't explain is the fact the Meriva B and Astravan H have an end date also coinciding with the local introduction of the Opel brand.

I think it's common knowledge that the Meriva is/was being considered for sale locally, possibly next year sometime along with the Cascada and the Mokka, but how does that relate to the Astravan? Still being based on the older Astra H, it does make me wonder whether they'd bother bringing it here though, not that I'd complain though.
