Hi, just signed up to Opelaus and so glad to see there is more people like me out there (Opel fanatic).

The reason for this post is to see is there's anyone else on here that has done an MK3 Astra Gsi V6/F28 conversion? Im in the process off doing mine, just waiting on the conversion kit to arrive from UK.

Is it worth posting a Build Thread on here?

Cheers Coby

Absolutely worth posting a build thread  I can't recall anyone doing that conversion, aren't many mk3's in here in general really

Agreed! Definitely post up a thread for it! Only mk3 gsi I have seen on here was the one Pete was looking at buying a little while back.

Great, will go ahead with the thread. Always wanted to build one to be different, a very common conversion in the UK so purchased a V6 Astra off Ebay, got a local wreckers to pick it up for me and pull it apart, ordered a heat treated crate for them to load the parts in and its leaving today for Sydney Australia and all for under $1600. Biggest shock was how cheap the freight is, a crate 1600mm X 1600mm and 1250mm High for US$176 plus 61.5 pounds for UK customs. Can't Wait!!

That freight is ridiculously cheap! What company did you use?

The only notable Australian mk3 I know is that one that was in the running for fast fours modified car of the year 2006 or 2007 (?), 2.0L with high mount turbo

Im using a company called RJJ Freight, they specialise in cars and car parts. I used them back in 2010 to bring a complete car over and they made it hassle free. Will start the thread within the next week or so when i start the work. Will hopefully be complete by January so i can get it out on the track, just want to do it properly the first time.

Sounds like a fun conversion. Almost considerred a Mk3 C20LET conversion when my old cali was written off.
As said not too many modified MK3 Astras in Aus.

What brakes set up will you be using? Are you going to convert to 5 stud?

Its a straight forward conversion, the Astra MK3 sub frame is the same as a calibra so existing mounts, driveshafts can be used. Even things like Dash clocks (speedo + Tacho) are indechangable to give you correct readings. As for the brakes you can use the hubs off a calibra also hence getting the bigger brake set up and 5 stud conversion.

Hi guys, update on the Astra conversion. Sold the original X20XEV and gearbox so finally got off my backside and done some work. Removed rear disc brake assembly and replaced with larger 5 stud Holden Zafira disc brake rear end, using calibra v6 front struts with the 286mm discs all cross drilled to help stop it. Removed original motor and box and now have the Calibra V6 and six speed F28 all bolted in and ready to connect. Suprised how easy it went in especially while doing it by myself and my 2yr old daughter wanting to help. Hopefully be up and running by the end of next weekend. Will get my partner to upload pics during the week, im not that clued up when it comes to computers.
