Download a program called ACDSee... (www.acdsee.com)

and then go to http://astalavista.box.sk (Warning: Porn links may come up), and search for a patch for it.

The program can edit pics really quick and get them down into a small filesize that is 56k friendly.

Full system or cat back..???

I went and saw a bloke at a shop recomended by my dealer. He put the car on a hoist so he could see what was underneath. Might be a bit of a job to do from the turbo back, but the rest is easy....

From what Jass has dyno'ed you can expect about 10Kw from just a cat back....

Wayne , just got a 3 inch mandrel bent cat back system with stainless muffler and 2x resornators.
the car is relatively quite untill you boot in.
has got a great note to it and sounds tuff when idling
Took the guy at Liverpool exhaust about 3.5 hours , he stuffed around a bit but he did a mad job

Hey..!!!!

You stole my car, fitted another exhaust and swapped plates..!!!!

Oh... mine's still in the garage....

AH HA.!! That's HWBob's car..!!!
How the hell did you get home so fast ??

Been quoted $350 for a 2.5 inch catback system. Why did you do 3 inch..?? Also, 2 resonators..?? This guy will fit just one 24" resonator and large diameter muffler you can stick your arm through..!!

Big ask... Can you take a pic underneath..???

mr_astra_retired
14th February 2004, 02:10 PM
Got three inch as he said its better for a turbo car , i.e breathes better , sounds better and more performance than 2.5.
It is personal choice though.
Got two resornators as i asked them too , i didnt want a car as loud as my old astra. If i want i can just take one out later. And yes they are massive !
ill take a pic underneath now , will be a few mins 8)

Woo Wee... that's one big pipe you have there sir. :D

Jass
14th February 2004, 04:57 PM
A 3 inch will give you more power up top end, loose more down the bottom no?

Down pipe only makes the car turbo spool up quickly.
I am getting the new dump pipe made in about a month, will add another 10kw to the car, will remove the precat also, give it a bit of a gruntier sound i hope, 3 dump to the rest of the 2.5 inch system will see how that goes, run out of money since putting on the system this weekend.
:(

Yeah Wayne sounds good , not like the conventional valve but the sound is not overly loud which is what i was after 8)

Jass
16th February 2004, 06:05 AM
Last thing you want is to be scaring people in the street as you drive past, and having your friendly police man, booking you with a defect notice. can't wait to hear the valve this weekend man :)

A nice polished stainless steel pipe inside the car between the throttle body and intercooler would look cool

Looks tops mate - congrats ;)
I'm jealous now...

Took the guy at Liverpool exhaust about 3.5 hours , he stuffed around a bit but he did a mad jobGlad to hear they did a good job on your car cause they totally f#%ked mine
I don't really doubt the workmanship of their workshop on the whole though (as my brother had his car done on the same day as mine and they did a top job), I just think that the tossbag who did my car was more interested in chatting to his mate than doing a good job on my car...
I've only been back there 3 times in the last few months to get things fixed and unfortunately it still sounds shit...oh well! :?

Look forward to seeing it on the cruise this Friday :D

Steven,

Problem no 1: They didn't use spring washers when bolting the cat to the rest of the exhaust, so after a few weeks of driving the whole cat come loose and the car sounded like a truck. I tightened the bolts up myself and took it back to them...they told me that they probably weren't tightend properly when it was installed, but that it should be ok now. Two weeks later, the same thing happened again...this time they changed the washers and used solastic to plug up the leak. Promised me that the exhaust was all sorted and that I wouldn't have any more problems.

Problem no 2: About a month later I noticed that the exhaust had suddenly become a fair bit louder. I had the impression that the exhaust was leaking somewhere...so I had decided to take the car back to them when I had a chance. The next day the car was sounding like a truck again...I had another look under the car and noticed that the overlap pipes between the muffler and the rest of the exhaust had come apart. The guy who installed the exhaust had just spot welded it together and the overlap was only approx 20mm...it was only a matter of time before it would have come apart. I took it back to them again and they were pretty apologetic about the whole thing. They fixed it up by clamping it together and using solastic again...and all was sweet again.

Lately I've noticed the car sounds worse again. Every time I down shift when I'm decelerating, the exhaust 'gurgles' badly and the exhaust in general just sounds shit...so i'm not really happy. I can't be bothered going back to them again...I'll probably take the car somewhere else this time cause I'm sick of the hassels.

The annoying thing is that I know a lot of people who have had quality jobs done there (including my brother who had his car done on the same day as mine)...I don't know what went wrong with mine, although the guy who installed it was a total idiot and was yapping away to his mate the whole time he was working on my car.

Sorry for the long post...was just venting

Dude, you have every right to be pissed off. Its the one thing i really hate when companies with a good reputation screw up something for you.

Obviously you didn't have to pay for the repairs when you were taking it back. If I were you, I'd take it back and simply tell them that since you've had it done, you had to come back heaps of times to get it fixed, somethings happening again, and you want them to do the whole system free of charge, as it wasn't done properly the first time.

If the car is gurlgles it could mean over fueling??

Iam not quite sure, had the same problem when i got a whole in my muffler, idiots forgot to put a bracket just before the axel and the weight of the exhaust was too much for the mounts on the muffler and it collapse.

Making a 2 huge ass holes in my car, now there ok, 1 muffler and 3 new brackets later the car sounds ok.

Ouch Brendan , the first guy was obviously just a tool , real sorry to hear but sounds like maybe you need to head up to maybe tuffy toned for a good check up.

The guy who did mine instead of yappin to someone he was just workin a snail pace which annoined me as a waited for it to be finished , the more i stood there watchin the slower he went , so i ended up sittin in the recept part till it was done :x

So you can recomend Tuffy Toned? I've heard they're not too bad...but which one do I go to (I think there's a few of them...)??

The guy who did mine instead of yappin to someone he was just workin a snail pace which annoined me as a waited for it to be finished , the more i stood there watchin the slower he went , so i ended up sittin in the recept part till it was done :xI did the same thing...the guy took forever to do mine as well.

If the car is gurlgles it could mean over fueling??Hmmm, what exactly do you mean by over fueling? Is there any easy way that I can check if thats whats happening on my car? The gurgling seems to be getting progressively worse...

The guy who runs the show there is a "smoove operator" who thinks he can sweet talk his way out of any situation...it just shits me and I can't be bothered going back there anymore...even though I should.

Thanks for all the help guys...much appreciated :)

If they don't, then I might get you to speak to your mate who works there...if it's not too much trouble. Got nothing to loose in trying I guess...
Cheers for that :)

Have to say that your exhaust sounds pretty sweet there mate...same for your mate's bike when he was revving the crap out of it at the lights hehehe. As for mine, don't know if you heard it properly, or if the sound of your exhaust was blocking it out...it's not sounding the best at the moment...

Hope your mate in the accident was alright.

Catch you tomorrow night 8)
