Hey from Sydney, HSV/Opel/Vaxhaull VXR

Hey my names John, and im from sydney.
I just bought a 2006 vxr!
I personally dont know too much about these machines except that they hard go.
and theres a few things i need to fix-up, such as the drivers window door switch (the drivers window switch comes out), and also the exhaust.
The previous owner put a louder sports exhaust on it and the tip of the exhaust touches the rear bumper. So i need to get that fixed before the bumper starts to melt.
Also need to get a service soon and im not sure if the timing belt has been changed. I looked at the log books and rang up the last mechanic that serviced it and he told me that this car is chain driven not timing belt, which im sure he is completely wrong. So if any one could recommend some really good local mechanics near sydney (St George area/hurstville) that could either change them or just check em. and probably a service to, at a decent price.
Any suggestions?

its got 92,000km. so im thinking it could of been changed.. or might not have been. I gotta get sumone to have a look at it.

Wouldn't have been done under the logbook as that says 120k, but I'll be doing mine around the 90k mark

hmm man im pretty sure it says at 90,000km it requires it - in the service logbook. That's why i rang the previous owners mechanic, but he was a complete nugget.
Do u have a vxr too?

Yep, sure do. There are usually revised log books so I never trust that service interval.

hey nurb608, where would i buy the timing belt kit and maybe a water pump from? ive had a look online and im not exactly sure theses ones overseas would fit 100%?

Autovaux or Courtenay Sport would be where I'd get one. Just make sure you stipulate genuine GM so you don't get the cheap water pump or plastic roller

i got quoted 171 ozzie dollars. for postage + timing belt kit + water pump.
Im gona take it tomorow to see if the belt has been done or not. then decide whether to purchase or not.
Also nurb, do u know what oil theses engines take? annnnddd!
does ur vxr have a engine temperature gauge? i cant see it on mine.

Mine has Mobil 1 full synth 0W40. As for temp gauge, not a literal one but you can access an on board one via your onboard computer if you still have the stock head init

yeah its got the stock head unit. how do i get to the temp guage? right side option on the screen? then u get to the consumption? then Bc1 or bc2? or timer? then what? im pretty newbie at this man..

hey nurb, whats the button on the roof do? like theres the 3 light switches, then theres a single button on its own.. but it doesnt push in..

That should be the internal alarm sensor button, so if you leave dogs etc in there, the alarm won't go off.

i was just ordering sum parts off autovax site and they said they dont ship anti freeze by airfreight. lol where could i get it from? holden dealer?

TBH, i just get mine from the local Autobarn/Supercheap. It will have Opel written on the recomended vehicle listing.

Hey mate Sonny @ Autowerks Automotive can definately help you out. He knows Astra VXR's inside out by now and has heavily modified mine and Tim's VXR's over the past 3-4 years. He is located @ 169 Penshurst Rd Beverly Hills. Him and his team do simple servicing all the way up to big turbo installs,cams and custom tunes.

The GMH coolant for the VXR is ACDelco Dex-cool RED $49.50 for 5 litres.

Specs - GM6277M, ASTM D 3306 & ASTM D 4985

Should be able to get a suitable one from the normal auto outlets. Just make sure its red and do not mix green and red together.

GM6277M?? i got a 5L bottle from one of my old cars that use to take the long life red stuff (nulon brand). You reckon it will be fine using that?

Nurb has: Wheels, paint, stickers, (Remus exhaust but only in the uk), embroidered seats, number plaque
