Guys, I was just wondering what you pay for Petrol in Oz per litre. In the UK we're paying at the moment £1.30 per ltr for 95 RON and paying £1.39.9 for Shell V-Power. So what do you guys pay?

On average $1.55 to $1.70 for V-Power. That's better than GBP1.399 = $2.07.

Here's another fact..

The state government charges the same to register (annually) a 1.2L Corsa or a 6.5L V12 Aventador.

But I would imagine optional insurance might be a tad more on the Aventador :D

Not always. In south Australia it goes by the number of cylinders. There can end up being quite a big difference. For example my old man's cruze is $180 for 3 months. (4cyl n/a) my van (4 cyl n/a) is $225 for 3 months because its classed as a commercial vehicle, my v6 vectra was $215 for 3 months as it was 6cyl. So for example a v8 Ute would be hit for being 8cyl and for being a commercial vehicle.

Back on topic. I always fill with 98 Ron. Cheapest I got it was $1.10 last year when basic fuel dropped below $1 and most I have paid is $1.72

Not in QLD mate, done by cylinders

$648 per yr for 4 cylinders

$812 per yr for 6 cylinders

$1095 per yr for a 8 cylinders plus

OT: Pay roughly around the $1.40 - $1.55 for 98 ron from BP.

in vic its based on your address

Motor vehicle registration (initial)
The cost of registering a motor vehicle for the first time will vary depending on the motor vehicle’s market value (which motor vehicle duty is calculated from) and the postcode of the vehicle’s garaged address. To calculate your motor vehicle registration fee use the VicRoads fee calculator.

in sunbury, its 647

in tullamarine its 696

Yeah I just paid 647. The Bpay code though says it's for "medium" so assuming the size of the car is a factor as well

nope. it was the same to register the barina as it is for the vectra. it only changes for car types, iirc utes, buses, trucks and the like

Stupid vic roads then and their classifications. Mine is registered as a sedan as "they are the same thing" apparently

Yeah Hatches & Coupes are sedans and 4WDs are wagons..

oh yeah, in Victoria, once you purchase personalised plates, it cost nothing to keep them for life.

Look on the bright side. When I was working in NZ I was paying NZ$2.19 a litre for 91ron. The premium95 was NZ$2.49.

I nearly cried at that. And I wasn't even paying for it!

I agree mate. It's a joke back home (especially with insurance!), it was one of the first things I noticed when arrive in oz. Pretty random/good that fuel prices here can fluctuate depending on what day you fill up too :D

Don't worry. Our government taxes the crap out of our fuel as well. Around 50% of the price is tax, after the Australian gov & then state gov gets their share.
Paid $1.50 today for BP Ultimate.

Taxes in Oz aren't nearly as bad as in a lot of other European countries. The gst is 21% in some whereas here it's only 10% Last time I was in Holland for instance, 98 was costing Euro 1.88 a litre (thats roughly AU$ 2.23 !!!)

Sorry to bring real facts into this, but.....

In 2010/11 at an average price of 132cpl (cents per litre) this is the break down of fuel in Australia
http://www.aip.com.au/pricing/pdf/Facts%20About%20the%20Australian%20Retail%20Fuels% 20Market%20and%20Prices.pdf

Refined Product Cost - 70 cpl (53%)
Government Taxes - 50 cpl (38%)
Wholesale/Retail Costs & Margin - 11 cpl (9%)

In a world scale our prices are actually one of the lowest taxed
