Such a sad thing to lose a track as amazing as the ring...

Unfortunate news. Hopefully another buy comes around to keep it going.

Given the amount of manufacturers that test on the 'ring for the right to brag, I wouldn't be surprised if they find a buyer for it. And I wouldn't be surprised if that buyer is a car manufacturer either.

They own NeuroDisney (I think that's what it is called) also.

Shall be interesting to see what happens with it

I'm with Chris, my bet is volkswagen Audi group buying it, or at least a major share

they shouldn't have built the theme park.

It would seem likely that Volkswagen would be up there, considering they have test tracks at Wolfsburg and Ehra-Lessien, which is where the Veyron set its speed record. Porsche have a test track at Weissach and also own the Nardo Ring, but it would be handy to have a track like the Nurburgring in their portfolio.

Bmw already have a permanent office at the ring for development of road and racecars...

The other manufactures come and go with summer/spring. But Bimmer operate out of there all year round.

Glad I've had a chance to go there before it potentially shuts down...

Hard to imagine such an icon shutting down. It will surely be bought by one of the big 4

The track is too much of a world icon for someone not to buy it

I'm in if they will post and dodgy the import sticker to say less than $1000... Don't fancy paying the taxes on the full price.

I can't see anyone buying it...

I always thought it was a semi-public roads.

The issue with buying it is not the initial cost, but the maintenance of it.. I've getting some concreting done and my god, it's going to cost me $10k for my drive way.. can you imagine what it would cost for 20odd kilometres.

You're half right john.

The road itself is owned by the state. The amco railing and fencing by the nurburgring corp so if someone buys the ring they don't need to surface the road. That's a state issue. Howeaver they are allowed to toll the road to fund the general running of the ring.

As said early you would be buying the right to operate the ring not own the road...

I agree with most above ie. either someone will by it (or the rights to it) or it'll still be available for ongoing use by manufacturers as it's currently being used but at a by usage cost...
