Sporty coupé scores points for striking design
Astra GTC joins list of Opel red dot award winners

The Opel Astra GTC has been awarded the prestigious red dot design award by a panel of international judges in this year’s product design category. The coupé, set to headline the Opel Australia launch in September, is widely recognized for being sporty, efficient and packed full of innovative technologies with captivating design.

“This is further proof that our Opel design philosophy of ‘sculptural artistry meets German precision’ has enormous potential. It is also evidence that customers and industry experts alike appreciate its value in how it helps communicate our brand values," says Mark Adams, Vice President of Opel Design.

The 30 judges on the red dot award panel praised the Astra GTC for scoring points with its striking and sporty design. Around 1,800 companies and designers from 58 nations took part in the 2012 red dot award: product design contest. A total of 4,515 products were entered in 19 different categories, creating a very tough competitive field, but one where the Astra GTC came out on top.

This year’s prize for the Astra GTC is the latest in an elite group of Opel designed vehicles to have received a red dot award. Previous winners include the Astra Sports Tourer, the Opel Flextreme GT/E Concept, the Insignia, the Opel GT and past generation Astra models.

The red dot award dates back to 1955, and has since grown into one of the biggest and most prestigious design competitions in the world.

William (Bill) Mott, Opel Australia’s Managing Director, said Opel Australia was proud to have the Astra GTC headlining the local launch of the brand in September.

“Passion and the quest for perfection in design are key values that shape the Opel brand, and our Astra GTC is a clear embodiment of these values. We can’t wait for Australians to be able to get behind the wheel and experience what the rest of Europe is celebrating.”
Opel will launch its German designed and engineered vehicles in Australia this September, with a model line-up comprising the Corsa, Astra, Astra GTC and Insignia.
