■Biggest Opel brand gathering worldwide with 70,000 visitors expected

Rüsselsheim/Oschersleben. Opel car enthusiasts from Germany and the rest of the world are gathering near the town of Oschersleben in the East German state of Saxony-Anhalt for the 17th such annual meeting and will entirely devote four days (June 7-10) to the brand. Last year around 70,000 visitors attended the event with some 20,000 Opel vehicles on show there. This time the organizers are expecting a new record.

Apart from the current OPC versions of the Insignia, Astra and Corsa, visitors will be able to come face to face with legendary Opel cars from the past including the black ITC Cliff Calibra and the Ascona 400 Röhrl/Geistdörfer. Other highlights include the “Black Widow” race car driven by Niki Lauda and Erich Bitter as well as the grand prix race car from 1913. The event schedule in Oschersleben promises to very varied.

The past and the future in 800 square meters

At the center of the world's largest Opel brand meeting is the Motorsports Arena, Germany's most northerly track. Opel has assembled an unforgettable experience for the enthusiasts: the current OPC model range is on display in the driver’s camp where visitors can experience the first-hand the vehicle range on more than 800 square meter space. The rest of the area is for vintage cars where the focus will be on racing from bygone days.

Visitors can even test drive the Opel high-performance cars. A154 kW/210 hp Corsa OPC "Nürburgring Edition" will be made available to ensure that they experience maximum driving fun in a big measure. Those interested in taking part can register free of charge at the Opel stand near the OPC Training Center.

A competition and a tour of the racetrack complete the day in Oschersleben. Participants in the online competition Opel@Oschersleben will also have the chance to experience the electric Ampera, the “Car of the Year 2012” and be the co-pilot of the DTM legend, Jockel Winkelhock. The Opel brand ambassador is taking part in a roadshow together with other Ascona 400 rally veterans including the legendary rally Monte Carlo winners, Walter Roehrl and Christian Geistdörfer. Those who are still not satisfied can take advantage of half-a-day of OPC driver training at reduced prices which normally only takes place at the Opel test center at Dudenhofen near Frankfurt.

Autograph sessions, fireworks extravaganza and party music

Off the race track there is a multitude of other competitions including public races and drag-style races over an eighth of a mile. Autograph hunters will have the chance to try their luck with Jockel Winkelhock and the German cult TV family, the Ludolfs. DJs, live bands and a “Miss Opel” beauty pageant will help to get visitors in the party mood. Around eleven o’clock on Saturday evening an impressive fireworks display has been scheduled and promises to illuminate the night sky above the Motorsports Arena. Further information can be found under www.opeltreffen-oschersleben.de

The main focus of the gathering will of course be the dialogue between the fans themselves who will be able to exchange stories and experiences. Opel is well known for being one of the very few brands that has such a committed fan base. A special fan corner has been set up at the event where ideas from the fan community can be shared and developed.

"Oschersleben is the world's largest Opel meeting and for Opel fans it is the highlight of the year. For us it is the ideal location to personally interact with our most loyal customers. The strong popularity of our products and our brand is unique and impressive, " says Thomas Sedran, Vice President of Operations, Business Development and Strategies, who will represents the Opel management board the Oschersleben event.
