For any of the Melbournites not doing anything on Monday the 11th, the will apparently be an Opel Car Display at Fed Square, starting at 11am. This is part of the Melbourne Football Club's "Walk To The G".

Hi Opel Aus Team

Yes there will be two engineering validation Opel's on display Monday week - a GTC and an Insignia. A couple of the Opel Australia team will be on hand to answer any questions that we can ;)

If you are around make sure you come up to introduce yourselves!

Thanks Mel

Wow, what a day!! Was awesome to meet Mel and the team. Was just as awesome to finally see the cars in the flesh!!

There was an Astra GTC spec'd up with 20" wheels, and an Insignia Wagon.
Mel advised that these were the MY12 models so the models that we will see at release will be a tad different as they will be the MY13's.

Steve took a heap of photos with his DSLR, so I will only throw up a couple of mine for now. Enjoy!

Anytime. Being in Melbourne, im more than happy to attend any Opel event to help promote the brand and also to get the forum name out there!

The photos really didnt to any justice. These things are a whole different car to what you see in pics. The seats are so comfortable. The MFD with the satnav is so crystal clear, the dash looks fantastic, and the Insignia had such an enormous amount of boot space. I know with a wagon you expect a heap of boot space, but this one was huge!

Even the attention to detail under the engine bays. There are so many cool things under the bonnet that you wouldnt normally expect :)

Adz, in the photo of the Insignia with the tailgate open - is there a second set of tail lights???

Clever :) - not that you would need it much, but at least there is something there for when you have to have the tailgate up for whatever reason.

Good find.

Is it an auto-opening tailgate? Those are some beastly struts

hazrd
11th June 2012, 02:16 PM
Nah, there is a touch button underneath that activates it. The tailgate is quite solid, hence the big struts.

A cool feature on the GTC is you tap the bottom of the Opel logo to open the boot ;)

As Adam said, these are the MY12's, slight interior changes for the MY13's

Overall, i was really impressed with both of these cars. Alot of things from previous models that didn't quite work are now gone, things that did work are back, and then everything improved on.

Thanks for the pics boys. The yellow GTC has a Megane-ish look about it, but better I think. Good to see Opel have added another gauge - water temp I presume. I'll be interesting to see the pricing of the GTC, which will be a pointer to the cost of any VXR version.

It is a water temp gauge but probably like every other manufacturer these days - it won't actually show the "real" water temp like the old Astra's and Vectras did - it will just move to 90 as the car warms up and will just sit there - unless of course it does overheat - so it will just do what a warning light could have done.

Good point Vectracious. That's why I monitor the coolant temp via the GID.

Nice pics. Can't wait to see them on the Coast.

Spotted black coolant expansion bottle cap and black window cleaner fluid cap..... think I need to get hold of those things so can get rid of the yellow ones in current car :smile5:
