poita
4th April 2012, 11:53 AM
Well can't get info any further from the top, received this e-mail today from Bill Mott (the MD of Opel in Australia if you didn't know)

Peter,

thanks for your note. Anyone who signed up for information on Opel at our website will be receiving a letter and brand/product catalogue within the coming days. If you have not signed up on line, I would encourage you and others to do so as we intend to share more information as we get closer to launch.

What I can tell is the following....

we are still targeting a Sept 1 launch in Australia
we will launch with Corsa, Astra, Astra GTC and Insignia
We will have dealers in every capital in every state - we will announce our dealer partners & locations in May
We will announce our exact offer and prices in Quarter 3 of this year

If you have any specific questions, don't hesitate to drop me a line.

Regards,

Bill Mott

Personally I like the GTC a lot... So if the in flesh look matches the photos... the polo will be gone in 2-3 years

Vectracious

website is actually confusing - it says that the Astra range is available with engine power ranging from 104 to 132kW - so does that mean the GTC 1.6 engine is also going to be available in the 5 door or the wagon as well?

Anyone with the info brochure can they have a look to see if they explain it better?

EDIT: Ignore me, just read the website properly again.

The wagon might be a good idea poita - have missed the load carrying of the VW a few times this last year - a few times now I've had to make multiple trips between the shops when I could have only done one.

poita
11th April 2012, 10:52 PM
I would say the astra will be small, i would lean more towards the Insignia if I where you

And the brochure is a generic one, the letter with it says that not all models and accessories will be available in Australia!

Vectracious
11th April 2012, 10:54 PM
I would say the astra will be small, i would lean more towards the Insignia if I where you

Probably wouldn't be much smaller than the Volvo and am coping more than OK in terms of the kids. Most of the time we are in the CR-V when we are in the car all together.

And only reason the 2 doors would be a problem is because that would be the only thing my wife would insist on - she has a thing about 2 door cars and the kids being in the back.

Lots of prity pictures, but it will be interesting to see what happens with Their model line up and if they are truly willing to try and compete with the other euro brands.

the 1.4 corsa 4 speed auto is out dated when compared to what else is on the market, if the bring the OPC model across that will at least be compatishon for the polo gti and the up coming xr4 (when it finally gets released)

The gtc main issue is going to be the 2 doors given the gti is sold mainly in the 5 door variant.

I would still look at a Corsa Opc should it be available by the first quarter of 2013, would certainly cost me a lot less than the A1.

Vectracious
21st April 2012, 07:36 PM
conventional auto can be just as good in terms of shifts and response as a DSG - just needs the torque converter to be locked up all the time - like the new Mazda Skyactiv auto trannys. Or look at Mercedes with their torque converter manual they've developed which I think the reasoning behind that is you don't get the jerkiness at low speeds that seems to affect VW DSG's.
