The other night I went to the casino (Burswood) with a bunch of mates and it was around 10ish so pretty dark... On the turn into the entrance there wasn't much lighting and my front left wheel dropped into the pot hole (I was probably doing only 50-60). After I parked, I went to check the wheel out and no noticable damage.

Now here's the question, what possible damage could have come from an encounter like this? My alignment seems to have gone as on a straight I am drifting to the left. And also are they liable for this damage? I have no idea what to do in this situation. Please help

Same thing happened to me once. I had to get a wheel alignment.

And also are they liable for this damage?

Who are "they"? The council? Yes they are but good luck trying to get them to pay for any damage done.

I have heard of councils paying for wheels and/or repairs to wheels due to potholes, however usually in these circumstances the potholes have been left in that state for quite some time, known about the danger and failed to acknowledge or repair it.

the thing is, I'm not sure who's property it is, its past the "Burswood" sign, so is it the property of the casino? And will they pay for the repair?

hey ren, to check for buckled rim(s), find a clear, flat road, without any immediate dangers, and accelerate to about 120. If you feel a noticeable vibration, the rim is most likely buckled!

I buckled a rim on Gt Eastern Hwy one morning. They were undergoing roadworks for those new luxury appartments on the river and they had cut a trench across the road. However, they were waiting for the truck to bring along the road base to fill the hole and he was running late. They hadnt bothered to change the road signs to indicate the potential danger (the posted limit was still 60 km/h). So driving along and all ov a sudden this trench appears no time to slow down, no where to swerve to (as it was across the whole road) and BANG! in goes the car. Because the trench was cut with a bitumen saw the edged was square. Folded the outer lip of my rim in. Called the Belmont Council who passed me on to the Company owner of the contractors doing the work. He offered to pay for a replacement wheel, sight unseen provided I give all receipts for the new rim and that i sign a waiver for any later damage that may occur due to the accident.

Apparently that morning two other car buckled wheels and one blew out a tyre.
The council and contracters are required to have insurance for these purposes.

Speak to the customer relations officer of Burswood Casino...and be sure to take a photo of the Pothole (before it is repaired) and any visible damage to your car as a result. The will more than likely have insurance for public liability.
