Bit bored with the GTI, thinking of suspension mods.

H&R Touring Cup Kit, 20-25mm drop springs and dampers..

About $450aud (ex-vat), getting a shipping quote... Damn it's cheap.

Anyone had any experience with the Cup comfort kit?

Hey John

I was also looking at getting H&R springs for the audi, although not the touring cup kit, i have heard nothing but great things about this brand. That price is very good too!

Yeah very good price.

My main concern is the dampers aren't great.

I've had their springs before and they have been good, but never their dampers.

You actually have, the H&R coilovers are springs and dampers =)

I'd get the kit, worst case scenario you hate the dampers, the standard dampers will be fine for that amount of drop!!

Very true. Ive found a place is the US that does the H&R springs for the Audi for $400 delivered so the price you have is very good and if the dampers are crap then just stick on your standard shocks

I know they will be better than the std dampers for sure, just a matter of how much better.

The kit is the same price (and matched) for a 25mm or 50mm drop.

While I would love a 50mm drop, I drive on 10km of tram track ridened roads to and from work everyday.

I'm hoping the kit will help the car sit better through the corners and will bumps.

The stock dampers feel under damped, have 64k on them, but have been like this since i purchased the car.

You're right Steve, but due to the price I doubt they will be at the upper end of the H&R food-chain.

Actually I misread the price, the webpage defaulted to in pounds instead of euros, when you selected english.

So real price about 450euro + shipping, so all up around $700aud.

So in some ways the expected price for a premium product.

I'll think I'll go for it..

H&R are excellent products...You will not regret getting H&R gear. As good as Bilstein and Eibach.

Yeah I know H&R make good products, unfortunately their isn't much info in the dampers which is included in the cup kit..

70% sure I'll get it.

$700 shipped, bargain!

I've had yellow Bilsteins, how many grades lower are the silvers..

Must google now.

I mean the H&R are Bilstein's painted silver effectively, H&R and Bilstein are related companies..

AFAIK the H&R shocks are made under contract by Bilstein or Sachs depending on the kit level, Cup Kit are Bilsteins IIRC...

That's good, thanks for the info.

Can't really go wrong with Bilsteins..

The oem dampers are made by Sachs.

I've noticed that a lot of branded suspension components are made by few brands, to the company's specs and then rebranded.

KW also make it for other tuning companies.

All the best ones seen to be German

Have you thought about KW V1 coilovers?

JohnBu

Extra cost and adjustments I can't be bothered with.

Plus I don't need to impress anybody with 'I have coilovers' lol

Good matched spring/damper work very well out of the box. the H&R cup kit would perform as well as the entry level KW coilovers, of course without the adjustments.

well for 700 its a big experiment whereas 1150 will get you coilovers that have a great rep. also they are KW so they dont have the wank factor associated with some coilovers, they are state of the are shock with the added bonus of lowering it as much or as little as you like. just throwing you ideas buddy

Thanks for the suggestion Gav.

The H&R cup kit are highly regarded, as are KW.

Another bonus of the h&r cup kit, because it doesn't really lower the car much, it won't be considered as a modification so won't affect insurance.

Think of it as improvement of the std suspension, rather than modification.

I'll also be keeping the std 17inch wheels.

You looking at getting KW V1s for your car?
