Hey all,

Just want to make sure im doing things right....
Bought some stuff from a UK retailer, price clearly stated as £703 (inc VAT) - reduced from £781

He has said that the VAT will be refunded to me upon purchase to the amount of £51.07.... apparently taking off the extra from the crossed out price (781)

My calculations indicate that I should be getting back £117.17?

Is my maths right, and this guy is trying to stooge me?

you shouldn't be getting charged vat in the first place.

you will however probably get charged other costs here in aus as the value is over $1000.

yeah, apparently they work by refunding the VAT to my CC afterwards, but the amount is less than I was expecting....

price ends up being 585gbp which is sub $1k, so i may get under the $1k limit (which doesnt include shipping costs AFAIK)

I believe VAT is now up to 20% since last year?

Should be £585.83 ex vat. Shouldn't be included in the first place as Guy said, not refunded.

Have replied to his email, will see what he says.
Worse comes to worse i'll call the CC company and get charges reversed for not adhering to the stated price on the website

Can't see why he'd charge VAT then refund it on to your card. They get charged for each transaction so would cost them more.

probably dont have their online ordering system setup to remove it at time of purchase?

Quite possible, that's why Courtenay Sport do it over the phone and process it manually.

all of the UK suppliers I have dealt with have no issues with doing it straight up.

Some of the good suppliers iv dealt with take it off automatically without even asking as they know we are vat exempt and all the others take it off before you pay as soon as you tell them. Never ever paid it then had it refunded. That's just time wasting and stupid.

You should ask them that the invoice they put in the parcel is excluding vat and that the shipping costs are mentioned separately as well. You only pay import duties if the total GOODS value is over AU$ 1000 and this excludes shipping. If there is no separate line on the invoice for shipping, you'll pay import duties over the whole invoice amount.

they have now stopped answering my emails, got them on chat this evening
"for countries outside the UK, VAT is taken off the retail price"

this is the page:
http://www.europerformance.co.uk/pages/products/product_info.mhtml?product=555742804

clearly false advertising IMHO, since it clearly states a price inc VAT.
going to talk to the bank tomorrow to see what I can do.

just checked and the invoice also clearly states the VAT amount as 117uk pounds!

Yeah, looks like they definitely charged you incorrectly for it.

I'll give them a call to ask if they refund it.. much simpler than filling out all the credit card dispute form.

yes they say they refund it, and they did part (51gbp).
Just not the correct amount

got this reply:
"All prices for goods represent the total price payable by the customer for those items, excluding delivery which is calculated based on the delivery address at the point of checkout. This price includes VAT at the current rate. This price is the same for deliveries outside the UK and EU to exempt destinations, where VAT may not be applicable at the point of order, customers are only entitled to a refund for the differences in vat once the order has been successfully processed and checks have been authorised by Euro Performance accounts dept. Please note refunds for the differences in vat are calculated on the RRP price of any item purchase and not any advertised 'discounted price'. "

I think its either BS or false advertising at least, will let the bank investigation decide.

It's late and all, but.....

If they are saying the VAT is refunded on the RRP shouldn't you get more back?
