Holden are importing and selling the new Opel Mokka, small city sized SUV and badging it as an opel. It's based off the current Barina (so daewoo) but design is Opel.

Makes me wonder why this gets the import instead of other models on offer and why when Opel is being opened up this year? My only guess is Opel won't bother with this model as its against their "premium" range offerings they might be looking at selling

Personally im not a fan of it. But i can see why it would attract the general public

I wonder how the 1.4Ti will go in it...

If given a choice, I'd prefer the new Ford Kuga over this. Chevrolet and Holden aren't gonna stop until the 1.4t is in every car they sell!

could be worse.. could be the new volt with its pointless electric engine with stupid price tag

The Volt is expected to cost around $60,000 and is fitted with an electric motor capable of travelling 60 to 80 kilometres

i think the new facelifted barina is probably the best looking one they've made so far (not including the corsa, of course)

how did you get holden badging as an opel from that?

Opel revealed the Mokka overnight, at the same time its US sister brand Buick unveiled the Encore model at the Detroit motor show. The pint-sized SUV is based on the same underpinnings as the Holden Barina as car brands look to cash in on the continued appetite for both small cars and SUVs.
But Holden will get in on the act as well with its US equivalent Chevrolet expected to debut its own version of the Barina-based soft-roader (featuring unique styling and built in South Korea) in the near future.

Expect the Holden to start around $25,000 with the Opel version demanding a premium when they arrive here in 2013.

from that article it sounds like Holden will be using their own or basing upon the chev's design and the Mokka wont arrive til Opel does

holden is using the buick version.. which is the opel with no luxury features (cloth interior etc). Opel Mokka however has leather interior and all the stuff but isnt a release car. The original base design is opel but

it kinda sounds like holden is trying another cruze (original...)
and we all know how well that worked for them...

cruze worked really well... if it was sarcasm i think you mean the epica :p

No he means cruze, the little shitbox 4x4 thing. Similar to a jimny in shape

the cruze did not work well
I think I've only seen about 5 in my life

I'm pretty sure I've seen more epica's than cruze Ver.1
the epica/tosca was a good car, it just came at the wrong time (how could a transverse straight 6 fwd not work!) lol

I worked at Holden at the time and they sold a bucket load of them. They sold more of those than the veccy c

I didnt mind the cruze soft roader tbh. We were actually looking at one a few years back, but decided against it because the budget wouldnt stretch at the time.

Also, we werent too keen on spending $18k (at the time) on a car that only had a 1.5L engine

First gen cruze, they went like hot cakes. Regardless, the new cruze's are everywhere here and I can't remember the last time I saw an epica

I'd say they would keep it under the Opel banner, the small suv type cars are in demand, by offering one as a Holden (captiva) and one as an Opel they increase their market share. I may be wrong, but what's the point in bringing out a car and changing the badging if the original branding is out here?

The outside of the first car is ugly, but I like the interior. Would be easy to implement a car pc.
