Just out of curiousity.. anyone know what the labor only cost of such a conversion would be?

(For a Front Wheel Drive)

I'd guess that for a Vectra it would be pretty labour intensive the way everything is crammed in there and therefore very expensive....

You can have mine if you like Raj - it's just that its a 4 and stock!! :P

It would be cheaper and easier to just rade in your car for a manual. A conversion is too expensive.

Yeah but i love my car. The color, the shape. I've been looking for another one like it for a while now.

Some dude at a carwash told me it would cost 4k all up. but i dont believe him.

man i doubt its 4k all up
my mate had an engine transplant and everything including rear discs put in and heavy duty clutch, new mounts and all
all up 5k that included the motor and gearbox

as i told you before... $100-$150 an hour. as for how many hours, i'll have to check with the boss. and if you want them to supply the box etc, did you want a new box plus acc. or second hand...

You'll need parts like pedal box, new console, and the transmission bits...labour will be the killer. I know a few people who have gone from auto to manual with their 3-series. Would you need a new diff? Possibly, whats the ratio on auto vectras vs manuals?

raj - manual box etc for vectra.... $14k brand new

nope they dont run vision. they just send alot of work their way.

lol $14,000

hahaha

damn euro cars.

a mate of mine had his 180SX done for $2500 including labour, Clutch and gearbox!

your best bet is to find another vecy same model and color as yours, and change all the parts over then seel your old one! :)

hassles hassles hassles...

or just buy a new Vectra

Thats because Jap parts are piss cheap and in plentiful supply.

A wrecker once told me my gearbox is worth more than the car, similar items are used in Volkswagen Transporters I'm told so they are expensive units :?:

Try sourceing a gearbox from a wrecker. shouldn't cost more then $600 in labour.

^^^

my thoughts exactly. find your own gearbox and assembaly from a wrecker, buy a nice new clutch and pay the labour..

none of this new shit. 8)

You know the markup on spare parts is huge.

To buy all the spareparts avaliable for a $25,000 toyota corolla is around $250,000.

lol

yeah or you can buy a damaged vectra (manual) from the auctions and swap all the bits over!
prob have better chance finding one there than at the wreckers!
is there any difference between the 4 cyl manual gearbox and the v6?

Vectracious

$14K for a Vectra gearbox

I should rip the gearbox out of mine, sell it for about 10K, then sell the rest of the car for another 10K with engine, rather than selling the whole car for $16K!!!!

Ya best is to Try: http://www.partslocator.com.au/
Especially Bennet St Wreckers, Dandenong, Vic
He wrecks alot of Astras and Vectras :)

But also to the Best of my Knowledge, V6 Vectra Manual was never available in Aust. Delivered Vehicles. So if so, Ya will have to soarce it overseas and that means $$$$.

$3k for a front smashed manual astra cdx. there's your gearbox. could also use the heated leather seats, trip computer and 16" wheels if you fancied.

I'd check on that one. You may be right but I'm pretty sure I've driven one of that model at my work (drive heaps of car at work as part of my job). Can't be 100% sure...but something is telling me I have. It was on a 2.5 V6 Hatch. But either way, they are as rare as hens teeth. 95% of Vectras are Auto from what I have seen.

doubt it. since mine would be bolting onto a 2.6l V6.
