16 jets took off from Amberley RAAF Base this morning and flew up the coast to welcome 4 new arrivals.

Here they are in formation over the Sunshine Coast.....the little one out of formation is a Hawk 127 generally used on these occasions for in-flight photography.

Brother in law works on base as a armaments loader on the FA/18's.

I'll post up some pics he got this morning.

Wish I could have seen it.

I was less than 10km from the airbase this morning and I saw one or two planes due to cloud and the fact that I was stuck in a building at the time :(
I had been looking forward to this! Ah well...

It actually a carefully planned invasion...You have been warned!!

On a serious note, would have been an amazing sight and sounded incredible!!

not a fan of the fa-18, dont really know why australia invested in them at the time.... ive always been an f16 kinda person or a typhoon(if only we could be euro ahah)

but for complete military hardware awe go do the singapore airshow! got to look through a b2 lancer bomber and f14 tomcat while i was there year before last) oh and the predator drone (before the whole fleet of them were hacked/virused lol)

plane nerd :p

Still remember being at Williamtown RAAF base for the 75th Anniversary of the RAAF

Was a great day out that's for sure

My biggest highlights were seeing a B52 bomber landing and a spanner in the toolbox that was bigger than me!

Mind you I was 14 at the time

they had the Lancer (EDIT b1) and the drone at this years in Melbourne and to the FA-18 super hornet is far superior than the F-16 even so the F-16 looks the biz, haha

any of you guys seen a galaxy or super constilation take off. now that is a spectacle.... makes a380s look tiny ahah

i find it funny when australia bought the fa-18s off the yanks they were sold with no software to run them at all.. and there was a massive arguement between aus government and there supplier. Americans claimed it was a matter of national security to not divuldge their software etc etc lets just say rumours in the aviation community are ASIO 'stepped in' ;)

it was odd really, they looked quite messy coming towards us but as the photos show, they were in quite a tight formation.

the sound was only okay because they were flying at close to landing speed. They had quite a bit of positive pitch (nose up) to counter the slow speed.

I regret not going to Riverfire in Brisbane this year where one did a fly-by at close to mach 1. now THAT would have been awesome!

I went out to Wellington Point to watch them fly over. Not something you see everyday I must say, but I guess I wasn't awestruck.

Then again I rarely am.

I was at Highgate Hill and they flew directly overhead - my stupid camera died before I could take a video though :( was pretty amazing, but nowhere near as cool as the F-111 at river fire.

As someone who is endorsed on: C172, C182, C206, C210, and an 8KCAB, its extremely depressing to watch these guys go 'slowly' past haha

Haha Cessna's are so boring - I want to fly an RV7 or a Waco. Good luck man, I tried for about 6 months to try and find a job on a Caravan but couldn't find anything that didn't mean moving interstate. BAck at uni doing finance now for a change of scenery
