Hello All...

I am about to release an iPhone app that is aimed at providing conversions for the most common units used by car tuners and enthusiasts.

So far I have 16 conversions.
- PSI to Bar,
- Bar to PSI,
- KPa to PSI
- PSI to KPa
- KPa to Bar,
- Bar to KPa,
- AFR to Lambda,
- Lambda to AFR,
- KPH to MPH,
- MPH to KPH,
- KW to HP,
- HP to KW.
- NM to FT.LB,
- FT.LB to NM,
- Celsius to Fahrenheit,
- Fahrenheit - Celsius.

Can you think of any more? Please email me your thoughts here ([email protected]).

Thanks.

Hey Wayne.

I've got a similar app called converter on my phone. its pretty much covered all you have listed above (plus many other non car conversion units).

only one i can see it doesn't have is the afr and lambda unit.

I know there are shitload of converter apps. I just wanted to make one specifically for car people. Besides which, it is a personal goal of mine to learn IOS and publish a few apps.

So, the question still is.... Anything else to add.???

fuel consumption conversions

Yes, Including dealing with both US and UK gallons...

Turblue

Trouble with fuel consumption conversion is whether you use:

L/100km
or
km/L

....???

You have a conversion app. Sounds like a conversion to me :)

Most would use L/100km I would say. Could always do all three: mpg, L/100km and km/L

All four. There are two mpg values - depending on which gallon you want to use...

OK....

MPG (US) - L/100km added. Plus reverse calculation.

A lot of press in Euro countries do - I know I've read Greek motoring articles and translated German ones and the power figures were all in PS

Btw top work Wayne. Let me know when you get it up an running and I'll give it a try for sure :)

This is a serious learning curve. Thankfully, it is making sense bit by bit. This app is a huge step up on my previous one. Thankfully, the way I have built it, makes it really easy to add extra conversions without a major rewriting of the code.

I'm up to 24 conversions now. I wonder how many more there will be...!!!!

Thank you all for the support and thoughts.

Turblue

App has now been uploaded to Apple for review.

Any changes from here will be version 2.

Tres interested in this one mate...

Volume (litres to gallons, quarts etc)
How about spring rate conversion. Lb/in to kg/mm??

As its for car people and doing conversions, maybe some calculations as well.

An engine capacity calculator. (bore x stroke x no. of cylinders) etc...
Ratio mixing calculator (100:1, 30:1) for fuel mixing when adding say ethanol/toluene etc to a fuel to get a specific ratio. If you could work it so the you can get an E10 fuel to an E85 ratio with the addition of ethanol that would be helpful.
Dyno/KW power estimate from wheels to flywheel using a drive train loss value. IE: drivetrain loss = 13%, car made 200kw ATW's = 240.9kw or 372.5hp at the flywheel
Just what I can think of off the top of my head

Sounds like a Version 2.0 for iPad coming up...!!!!

Thanks Glenn.

The app has now been approved by Apple, and is on the iTunes AppStore.

Thanks for any support and comments. Version 2 will include more, and will likely support iPad as well.

Thanks! It was a personal goal to write an iPhone app and put it on the AppStore. If I sold just one, I would consider it a success. This has been a massive learning curve, having never done programming. So to get this far in a month has been awesome.

I look forward to input for the next version!

Funnily, I had an email yesterday from a company in the USA offering to convert ECU Tools over to Android for a fee. It's getting a little bit odd, with the number of emails etc that have started since I put apps on the AppStore. Typical I guess.....

Anyway, here is the mockup of the next version which has three input fields to allow for more complex calculations. When you select a conversion, labels appear under each field to indicate what they are. This is first draft.

OK.... The new code is done, and ready to roll. All I need now are extra conversions.

The list I have so far to add is:

- Engine displacement,
- ratio conversion,
- gallons/quarts etc to liters/mls etc,
- pipe cross sections (2.5” pipe vs. 3.0” pipe)
- Airflow conversions (CFM to lt/min etc)
- pressure vs. temp ratios for air density
- cubic inch to cc’s / liters etc
- injector volumes cc/min to lbs/min to lbs/hr to lts/hr to gallons/hr
- average speed calculator for lap times (2min lap and track is 4kms etc)
- Drivetrain loss

Top work mate..

Ok.... Density (lb/ft3) = 2.7 * (PSI + 14.7) / (((1.8 * Celsius) + 32) + 459.7)

Wanna check that for me? Do you want a different density unit?

I can add altitude if you find me the formula...!!!

gman
9th September 2011, 05:58 PM
If you can adjust for altitude that would be good...

kg/m3 can you do that too??

equation looks right but will check and come back

Turblue
9th September 2011, 06:00 PM
Just give me the formula (and any others) and I'll whack them in.

My app is set up to work with up to three variables.

ECU Tools V2.0 (http://itunes.apple.com/app/ecu-tools/id460695011?mt=8) is now available. For those that did download it, you should do an AppStore update.

Thanks for the help and ideas everyone!

gman
5th October 2011, 03:03 PM
Got it and looks really good.

Only thing is it fails to update once the values are input and the user marks "DONE". You need to switch between conversion types to get it to update.

EDITED: It works, I don't...Should have read the destructions a little more closely

What's New in Version 2.0

- Added extra conversions,
- Added multiple unit conversions,
- Tapping the Title will now also perform the calculation.
