First ive heard of the Commodore having it, i know some of the new BMW/Mini cars have it, and is a good system.

The starter motor in these new cars uses very little energy so max fuel can be saved when switching the car on and off.

The Mini Cooper D quotes 3.9l/100km from memory

Mazda have a pretty cool implementation that doesn't require a starter motor to restart the engine:

All 2012 Diesel Opel Vehicles are having stop start tech on them. Will eventually be across the board on all Opel Vehicles.

wouldnt it need a stronger altenator/battery to keep stop starting though

yeah but if you turn your car on and off you will flatten your battery. i meant more powerful not stronger haha. like a higher output battery to keep starting the car over and over again

The BMW/Mini alternator has a clutch on the alternator pulley so it's not constantly engaged, therefore when electrical load isn't there, the alternator is idling.

So the alternator can keep up with the constant starting cause at other times it's not being used at all!!

Trying to find the technical documents i got for the Mini D with the auto stop start
