Guys

I know there has been a fair bit of discussion lately on tyres but I too am up for new tyres and I have narrowed it down to either Conti SC3 or Michelin PS3 on my SRi-T (225/40 R18)

My OE tyres are the Conti SC2's that I've been very happy with. Does anyone know the difference between SC2 and SC3?

Also I know the Michelin PS2's are better than PS3's but are they worth the extra?

The prices I've been quoted do far are as follows:
a) Conti SC3 $370
b) Michelin PS3 $450
c) Michelin PS2 $505

I've driven on PS2 and SC2's and the PS2's win hands down. never driven on a tyre as good.
both are still a superb tyre.

can't comment on the PS3's.

Awesome thanks guys really appreciate your help.

I think I'll go for the SC3's on eBay but if I miss these I'll think I may try the Michelin PS3's

We use both on customer cars at work, the Michelins tend to last longer and grip better, the Contis are quieter though.

Personally have found the Michelins to be better, could not believe how much grip my old Pilot Sports had, even on the drag strip with 10% tread left =)

Thanks mate, just bought these CS3's and saved myself a packet even after paying for shipping and fitment I will be miles ahead.

Does anyone know a good place that can properly balance and fit tyres for a good price in Melbourne. I live in Camberwell so would prefer something out east.

Advanced Tyres and Tyres Plus, both in Richmond have served me well..

I've enquired about tyres before from St George, as they are very cheap, but was put off by the manufacture date.

Some tyres (not necessarily all) were manufactured years ago.

yes,you should be aware of the production date.
the tyres in my link are 2010

Thats a very very good deal then.

I remember one ebay set I was looking at were 5 years old when I enquired!

The ones I bought are 2010 manufacture so more than fine from my point of view (even if it is early 2010). If they turn out to be pre 2010 then their advert was false and misleading!

Anyway a good saving of $120 a tyre so happy to have the extra $400 in my pocket after shipping.

yeah, good price...

now, for SC3, 225-40-18 and 225-45-17 are almost same price from there...
I would go for Pentas instead of SRi 17.

Just a quick update I received the new SC3's on Wednesday and had them fitted this morning. All I can say is that St George tyres were good to deal with, shipped promptly after payment and the tyres were exactly as described (manufactured week 27 2010). After my experience I would be happy to recommend them to anyone looking for good quality tyres at a bargain price

Anyway thanks HoldenAstra for posting the ebay link as you saved me about $400!

Now I forward to doing some track days at Phillip Island in August with my old tyres on my spare set of rims!

You are the second guy in forum who bought tyres from St George after I post the eBay link.

I guess I will ask for serious discount from St George tyre when I buy new Contis SC3 for my 17'', haha...
