Not for gaming, for work travel.

Like it cause it looks cool, has an i7 processor and great peripherals.

Not keen on Vaio's, been burnt by Vaio's before :(

In this day and age, don't even think about buying a laptop without a SSD drive! Especially when looking at shedding a lot of cash on a high performance unit. I've been using a cheap Acer Aspire 1410 with a slow 1.5 GHz low voltage processor that was transformed into a speedy little beast as soon as I switched to a 120 GB Patriot Inferno. Fast boot time, safer since the drive is immune to vibrations and longer battery life. I wouldn't get more than 4GB of RAM since you won't use more than that anyway and more RAM sucks more battery juice, too. Oh, and make sure you also get Dell's 30" ultra high resolution monitor to enjoy the real power of your Alien when you're at home :)

can you afford it? yes, otherwise you wouldn't even consider it
do you want it? yes

can you justify spending X amount on a POA netbook for work purposes? no, otherwise you wouldn't have put a poll up.

seriously, you would be better off spending $300 on a netbook
it will do what you want it to do
it will have the same 720p screen
but it will have a processor that will give you much better battery life
then use a portion of the money you save on a good SSD

Well I went and bought my new laptop.

I got a Dell XPS 15" with the i7 Sandy Bridge chipset, USB 3.0, 3Gb Nvidia GeForce 555 card, 16Gb Ram, 1Tb external USB 3.0 drive and an Intel 600Gb SSD hard drive.

The Alienware was great, but turns out need a 10 day wait. Too long so got the XPS.. :)
