Has 17" RIM's. I 'believe' the tyre is 205/40/17". The tyre on lock is hitting the side. Will lowering the profile fix his issue, or does he need to put new RIM's on?

Is changing the width to say, 190mm going okay to do?

Note: I know little about tyres.

Your response is highly appreciated.

205 isn't very wide.

Lowering will probably make it worst.

From what I can see, it's not the width of the tyres that is the issue.. it's the offset.

That wheel looks like it's from the 330i from the E46. It may have a different offset to the E36.

205/55 R16 is the stock size.

Does he need to replace the RIMs? or is there another option for him?

replace the rim with one of the correct offset.

The e36 M3 came with 17inch tyres wider than 205.

Okay. So he has no option but to replace the RIM? No other tyre configuration can help him?

They are E46 wheels and E46 has same offset as E36. This is probably not the problem?

going of the info above. stock tyre size vs tyre size you say and offset being the same. then the issue is not they tyres as the width and diameter are the same and smaller respectively.

also i do agree that a 205 17" tyre is a bit small. will more likely be a 215. which still shouldn't cause that much of an issue.

is it lowered at all?

Yeah your mum just doesn't cut it anymore =P

As John said, those wheels are from an E46 and from factory have 225/45 tyres on them

can stretch 215s onto them, but I've seen heaps of e36s with these wheels with 225s and no scrubbing so I think there's another issue with the car (bent/worn suspension)

Have to lol at the ad saying 200k but the dash reqding 286k...
