Yeh thats why im imagining they are illegal, but the dtm and 'drift style' mirrors are smaller than factory on most cars anyway

If they're not TUV approved I'd steer clear of them especially if your car is a daily drive as changed components/parts on a car like those are easy to spot out by the law and no one wants the bother of canaries...
If it's a track car or occaisionally driven you may get away with it...
