waste of power if you ask me. 300bhp in a FWD car? It sounds like a lot of fun I know, but it'll push as soon as you power on mid way through a corner IMO. but I'm sure a lot of after market mods can fix that.

@ jimbow86 The focus RS has 224kw & 440nm and is a front wheel drive. It handles that power very well. all because of a clever little Quaife differential to distribute torque to the driving wheels.

The astra will be able to handle 300bhp as it will feature something similar

Mines getting close to that power and the quaife does a very good job. Not quite as good as the revoknuckle system appears to be but fingers crossed a similar system is offered on the next VXR. It's not the top end power that you have to worry about, it's more the way it's delivered.

174.5kw at the wheels but a few little more mods will hopefully get me up to the 300BHP at the fly very soon.

I still like it...:)

Lots of shaping happening there in the exterior design, that'll always divide opinion on the final look of the thing, you'll either like it or not...always best however to see new vehicles in the flesh (which we won't be able to with these anyway) as that usually gives a different impression in real life...

Alot of vehicles that don't look so good in pics seem to always look better in the metal :)

Power output seems about right, if not for anything else then just to be able to compete with the competition as those power levels are becoming the norm for 4 pot forced induction petrol motors these days...

Still the most important factor with all of this is the fact we here in Aust. can't have it or any Opel one way or another whether we like the thing of not...

Any new Opel would be better than any of the new Daewoo crap that's in the Holden showrooms...IMHO we'd be better off with the new Hyundais and Kias, they should rebadge them as Holdens !!! at least they're starting to look the part being designed by the same bloke/people who've done some the most recent Audis...

I must admit, I do like the look of the burnt orange Kia Cerato parked out the front of my place. The Kia 4WD's have gone to buggery tho.

That's only due to GM saving them from oblivion nearly a decade and a half ago and these days being able to access some of the groups parts bin...fact remains that although with GM and GMH influence they've picked up their act in order to be able to compete successfully with Opels replaced by the GM group, they are still bottom of the pile of the Korean brands...Hyundais and Kias are actually better o/a and cost the same or less than GMH's re-badged Daewoos...

The 'Koupe' variant looks 10x better than the Cerato...

As mentioned they're been modelled/styled by the same person who's done the most recent Audis, hence the strong resemblence to the A5 in this case...

And how about the new Kia Sportage ?? definitely hasn't gone to buggery IMO...again has got a very pronounced Audi (and VW SUV) look about it and even has LED DRL's...nice ! :)

Yeah sorry, that's the Cerato I meant......I can't like the new look Sportage but the Sorrento gets my vote....apart from being a splitting image of a Toyota Landcruiser from the back it still looks the part.

Here is the article in from the website...if what they say is true then this new VXR will be an absolute cracker! I just wish Holden/HSV would bring it out here

Meet the wheely good Astra VXR. Spotted leaving the legendary Nurburgring, our spies captured this mule for the next Astra hot hatch wearing a seriously oversized set of alloys.

The 19-inch rims are wrapped in tyres being specially developed for the car by German firm Continental, while the wheel features a unique spoke design which not only looks the part, but is designed to direct cooling air onto the car’s brakes. The stoppers are made by Italian specialists Brembo, and feature gloss black calipers and drilled discs.

The wheel, tyre and brake combination will be necessary to tame the Astra’s impressive power levels. The car will use a thoroughly uprated version of the firm’s 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine. But while the current unit produces 237bhp, a Vauxhall spokesman confirmed that the next car will produce “levels of power that will rival the Focus RS.”

But despite the serious power, the Astra VXR won’t be four-wheel drive. Instead, it will use a sophisticated limited-slip diff and a version of the Insignia VXR’s torque-taming HyPerStrut system.

The firm will show the GTC Paris concept at the Paris Motor Show, which will preview the three-door version of the Astra. However, this car will be very close in specification to the car which will become the VXR, which is due on sale in the UK in late 2011.

ripped the grille straight off the 5dr lol, it's worth noting though that the top grille on this 'vxr' is smaller than the rest of the range, just like with the current vxr.

Well a bit more news on this. This is the Astra GTC Concept that they will be showing at the Paris Motorshow with a bit of info. Thanks to Aussie on VXR Online.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y179/aussie31/edf03f2d.jpg

The Astra is sporting a new look! This is the GTC Paris – a thinly-disguised concept set to debut at next month’s Paris Motor Show. And it gives us our first look at how the rakish new three-door Vauxhall will shape up.
It’s been styled to preview the high-octane VXR version – but strip away the twin tailpipes and the enormous 21-inch forged wheels, and you’re looking at the production-spec Astra three-door. All that’s missing is a tax disc and number plate!
The flowing shape takes its lead from the elegant five-door Astra and handsome Insignia, and aims to put the much more conservative VW Golf and Ford Focus (http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/Ford/Focus) in the shade. Slim, eagle-eye headlights are topped off by LED ‘eyebrows’ which dominate the front end. A sharp centre line runs the length of the bonnet, leading to a low grille.
Curving ‘blades’ in the door panels create a dynamic profile, as do the sharp creases running from the door handles to the tail-light clusters. These features work together to give the GTC a honed, narrow look at the front and a purposeful, broad-shouldered stance at the rear. At 4.46 metres long, the stylish concept offers space for five people, yet still maintains compact and sporty proportions.
Under the skin, the GTC Paris features a four-cylinder 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, with direct injection. This is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, and incorporates stop/start.
The layout is a hint to the powertrain of the next Astra VXR – the unit is likely to deliver in excess of 300bhp as Vauxhall chases arch-rival Ford’s Focus RS.
Lesser variants will get the same range of engines (http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/256810/threedoor_astra_set_to_steal_show.html?CMP=NLC-Newsletters&uid=e60d36de4de1d6a01e4c25dc4b9c252e#) as the five-door – that means 1.4-litre turbo and naturally aspirated 1.6 petrols will be joined by a 2.0-litre diesel, as well as a super-efficient 1.7-litre ecoFLEX oil-burner.
The firebreathing VXR won’t be the only performance version to be offered, though. A 210bhp 1.6-litre turbo SRi is designed to take on the VW Golf GTI.
Under the skin, the GTC has a revised chassis and widened track, which provide more clues to the VXR’s spec. An electronic limited-slip differential features, as does Vauxhall’s FlexRide adaptive damping system. The latter alters the throttle, steering and suspension responses to suit drivers’ tastes.
To cope with the huge power output, and prevent torque steer, the flagship is expected to use the HyPerStrut front suspension layout from the Insignia VXR.
The interior will remain secret until the wraps come off the GTC at Paris, but through the windows of the car in these pictures, you can see the wing-backed bucket seats that will grace the VXR. The rest of the design will be similar to the five-door’s, with a high-quality finish, plus special branding.

I'm not sure, but don't think they will bring in an AWD version as it's aimed at competing with the RS mainly over in the UK. The introduction of the electronic LSD will be their version of the RS's Revoknuckle setup.
