without scrubbing

probably only 8.5, maybe only 8"
standard tyre is a 225 yeah? which would be a 7.5

edit: im taking wild guesses here, i cbf walking all the way downstairs to the garage to look at mine :p

check your state regulations with how wide your allowed.

IIRC qld, nsw and vic do not allow greater than 8" on front wheels unless it is a factory option

Are you willing to modify the arches to accommodate wider wheels if needed?

I think 8" front and rear would be easiest to find and still be within a reasonable budget and not have to modify any body work.

everything you need to know to do it legally.

That wheel doesn't look wider than 8"
just has some decent offset and a very stretched tyre on it.

To be honest I wouldn't stretch a tyre like that here in Aus unless you don't drive it very often. The roads here would just kill them in no time.

I wore 8.5" on my AH with no rubbing.

depends on your height..offset is also a big factor...8.5 is doable easy, 9's would fit too, with the right tyre and offset.

VXR rims are 19 x 8.5in offset is ET35 from memory with 235mm tyres

The rule on most cars is to not go wider than whatever the factory OEM rims measure...

Then the most critical factor whatever the rim width is the offset or ET number, again you need to stay close to OEM...

Unless you mod other things like guards, suspension, tubs etc. in that case you go to just about any size...

Also as mentioned there are restrictions imposed by each states RTA regs. so check those as well, especially for a daily driven vehicle...

im running 19x8s on my ts and i have no rubbing in the front. only issue is in the back where i scrub when i have people in in and i go over bumps. oh yeh im running 215/35s for tyres so they look a little stretched on.

i just started reading through the rta website
"Minor changes to wheels
Wheels up to 26mm wider than the largest optional wheel recommended by the vehicle manufacturer for the
vehicle can be fitted without the need to notify the RTA.
The outside diameter of the wheel and tyre combination must be no more than 15mm over the largest diameter
wheel and tyre combination specified for the vehicle and not more than 15mm below the smallest diameter wheel
and tyre combination specified for the vehicle."

under this clause, i shouldnt get done for width (if you count the sri turbo as it came out with 17x7s) but height cause rolling diameter inscreased by 20mm.

pretty sure the Sri-t 17" rims are 7.5" wide.

pretty sure the Sri-t 17" rims are 7.5" wide.

I thought they were 17 x 7" ??

But in his case he's running 19 x 8" aftermarket rims, so no surprise they're scrubbing at the rear, it's all depended on offsets as stated in my earlier post...

With a 19 x 8" rim on a TS the rim is already 1/2" over what I would advise as maximum width for a TS and ie. 7.5" and the offset would need to be at least 45 or greater on that particular rim to get away with it...even with a 19 x 7.5" rim with 215/35's you still need an offset of 45-50 for it to work properly, especially also considering if the car is lowered at all, in that case you definitely need the greater offset...

I've suggested this so many times to TS Astra owners, but so many end up getting rims that are too wide or wrong offsets...

As most of you are aware, I'm running 20's on my TS, they are 20 x 7.5" offset is 45 (50 on another set) with 225/30 rubber, lowered around 35mm and have no issues front or rear...I have however had to modify the inner plastic guard liners, there's no way of avoiding doing this if one wants to run 20's of any sort on a lowered TS...

I've got a set of 17 x 7" rims with 215/40 rubber and even they scrub on the rear of my TS, reason is because the offset is 35, compared with the stock offset (for a TS) of 49 !

obviously they're shops, that goes without saying. But physically that's impossible unless your sideskirts are like 30cm deep. with the wheels where they are (still 1cm gap to the arches) that front skirt it has would still sit 15+cm off the ground.
Those wheels aren't that wide either, they're just an offset of like 35 with some stretched tyres on them, so if that's the look you're after it's more than achievable. :)

nah the rims ive got are 45 offset. but i over react bout the scrubbing. it only happens when i have more than 100kgs in the back and go over bumps way too fast. my dad sells wheels for a living and he has a fitment guide and that said that the astra sri rims were 17x7.5. but he has said that there have been many mistakes in that book. i have however did a dodgy on my trye placard. i removed it off the car and scanned it on my comp and fotoshoped it to the specs of a sri turbo. in the front theyre fine though.
