neither, save your money and get a 3A pod filter, bracket and some piping to connect it. Can do it for around $50 if you shop around.

If your worried about heatsoak then put the standard box back on in the warmer months or build a heatshield.

BTW the simota air filter is a 3A filter just with a shield on it.

They do sound awesome but

obviously havent tried the 3A =P

vectra_

but simota carbon and k&n are probably safer and more reliable then the 3A ones i think... (:

26th July 2010, 12:37 AM
Many of us here run a 3a pod with no issues. If anything it's the safer than the k&n as it's not oiled and it's the exact same as the simota without the shield. You could get an universal shield for it if you wanted to but I wouldn't bother unless you want to use it in warm weather.

Just trying to give you a better and cheaper alternative.

vectra_

yeh i might go for the 3a pod ones the weather is usually cold over here ın victoria so dont think it will be a problem but the thing is simota one would probably look better because its carbon fiber :p

Nurb608
26th July 2010, 08:23 PM
There's not much you can do wrong. Rip out the airbox and connect the simota onto your AFM and anywhere else it needs to run.

Is it a vehicle specific kit?

vectra_
26th July 2010, 08:56 PM
nah, its universal simota carbon lightweight filter.. :s

Nurb608
26th July 2010, 09:06 PM
Hmmm, you might need some extra parts then depending on sizes of the pipework that joins onto the AFM but not 100% sure on this kit. I'm sure someone may know, or we will soon find out, lol. Come to the cruise this friday night and we can check it all out.

80mm to get onto the AFM, no idea what the size of the Simota is though.

gmonkey
26th July 2010, 09:37 PM
It was either 76 or 84 can't remember but was 4mm difference think it was 76

ChrisMaz
26th July 2010, 09:41 PM
In that case, just 80mm silicone pipe, and clamp the crap out of it like i've done on the apollo. Apollo end was around 76 as well.

gmonkey
26th July 2010, 09:44 PM
Or just do a 80mm to 76 reducer like I did costs about the same :p

vectra_
26th July 2010, 09:51 PM
i have no idea what you guys are talking about but thanks very much, you guys are very helpfull (:

Nurb608

liam
26th July 2010, 10:51 PM
I had to use a 90 degree bend and essentially cut the ends off just so i had the tight curve bit.

mate its not hard to do, it seems really daunting to rip your car apart especially the engine (interior im fine with engine wise i just dont dare to think about the trouble id get in) but its easily done :)

If you look at the photo's of the setups for your particular model you can work out how people do it

vectra_
26th July 2010, 11:16 PM
is there a HOW TO about fitting it in around here..? (: maybe i should check...ive searched but couldnt find a how to on fitting

gmonkey
29th July 2010, 07:56 PM
chris has a apollo on his 3.2... sounds like a V8.. so i can only imagine the simota would sound louder again :)

vectra_
29th July 2010, 08:28 PM
maybe he can put a video around here somewheree..

ChrisMaz
29th July 2010, 08:39 PM
I can give you a rough idea with an apollo?

Trust me, both make the 3.2 sound tough as hell.

Yours will be louder than this :D

I'll try and get my own clip tomorrow with my sound recorder.

Oh and heres my setup.

Only deep when you are using the throttle. You just won't stop using the throttle :D

vectra_
30th July 2010, 09:00 PM
hmmmm(((: the thing is now, i dont no how to fit this in ((:

ChrisMaz
30th July 2010, 09:05 PM
Basically the same as the Apollo. Simota may be a little bit longer though. But that could work to your advantage if you want it piped straight into the intake snorkle.

vectra_
30th July 2010, 09:10 PM
if i take it to a mechanic to get it fit, im scared that they wont be able to fit in proply...
and i think i have to get the slicone for it yes??

ChrisMaz
30th July 2010, 09:15 PM
If a mechanic couldn't fit it then they really don't deserve to be a mechanic.

Yeah just get a 90 degree silicone bend.

vectra_
30th July 2010, 09:30 PM
true..
ill get one from autobahn tmorrow then..

Simota is a dry filter

3rd August 2010, 02:03 AM
is that a bad thing or a good ? :s

boorny88
3rd August 2010, 09:49 AM

No probs mate, just remember to get the proper 90 degree pipe but as it's not really under pressure it will be fine for a while.

Gees it sounded so nice when you left last night, much better than the open cone sound.
