I saw a demonstration of this at work a few weeks back. Meh...

The majority of people I've asked don't really give a shit about 3D TV. I'm interested to know who is buying one?

3D TV is only waste of time and money IMHO. When they work without glasses let me know and I might have a look.

as someone who sells them, my personal opinions are,

-3d feature is kinda cool. Some moments look great in 3d, whilst others look like I've put on someone else's glasses.
-3d is certainly not something you'd watch 'all the time' (eg. it's not like you'd put the glasses on every time you watch TV
-There will be more of a market for them when there is more content, especially live action content (it's just a couple of animations atm)

I think 3d should be looked upon as an extra (like a sunroof for example), not the thing that defines the TV.

-Forgetting the 3d feature, the TV itself (in particular the LED range from Samsung) is great - good picture, improvements over previous generations of edgelit TVs, great internet and skype connectivity through Ethernet (wireless on the bundled BluRay). Sexy remote control.
The genesis of the LED Samsungs is essetially they took the range topping Series 8 LEDs, added the 3d functionality and a new metalled base and hey presto you've got the Series 7000 3d TV.

Recommended retail on the 46" LED is $3699. Without advertising too much, there's enough money in them for us to be able to put them out around 3.2Ks, so if you go into harvey's or JB there's certainly room push them on their pricing. The interesting thing is that at this price they're cheaper then the Series 8 LEDs were (and that's without the 3d function).

tbh I'd be buying a Samsung TV for it's technology, and Internet@TV, Skype and 3DTV are all examples of that. If picture/onboard sound was the defining thing I'd probably go with a Sharp TV instead, or pay out some dollars and get a Euro made Phillips Anamorphic (21:9) TV ($8,999 retail). We got one out of the box last week and it absolutely rocks.

I'd be happy with a new LCD for starters. Plus I could never justify spending that much money on a TV.

I'll consider 3D if FTA TV had sufficient programming and I didn't have to wear those stupid glasses.

oh, I've rather a 60inch Plasma than 46inch LED LCD.

my 6 year old Philips CRT 76cm widescreen is still going strong - but if it did die tomorrow - probably would just buy a normal LCD or stretch to a LED - but if a 3D samsung is cheaper than the Series 8's, then would just get a 3D model and use it whenever it was called for (prob not that often)

Don't have room for a 60" Plasma unfortunately. :(

no wont be getting one.

Although a touch annoyed at the pricing of them though.

We got our Aquos for more then what the 3D ones are selling for, yeah it was a few years ago but still. Glad as its still the good aquos before they started making them in god knows where

Prefer my LCD to a plasma too thanx....

3D = NO - As jerram said there isnt any content in anything as yet to be worthwhile its just a few animations. I been to the 3D movies and you can watch 3/4 of the movie without the glasses

Samsung = Love it only recently got mine. LCD all the way

nope... my 5 year old 101cm samsung LCD is still good.. except for when it gets cold in the air

bought a 46" LCD 2 years ago, and a 42" LCD for the bedroom about a month ago... will wait for the LEDs to come down in price before upgrading, then MAYBE get a 3DTV.. when they come right down... so got a while yet!!

Pioneer Tvs are the sex.. Shame the cost so much. Best looking picture I've ever seen! I still think u don't even really need full HD unless u have a 60"+ tv or projector. A 42" in 1080i or 720p is fine I never see any pixels and if u do ur too close :p or bought a shit tv ahhaah

Don't have room for a 60" Plasma unfortunately. :(

You're not trying hard enough Pete!
you can try a 54" Plasma.

50inch 1080P Panasonics are like $1,300. I paid $2k for mine last year and thought it was a bargain of a lifetime..lol

to me, plasma looks much smoother and natural, compared to LCD... but end of the day, have a look for yourself to see which you prefer.

and yeah, the Pioneers were the best, 720P Kuro's would probably still have one of the best PQ today of any TV.

if its just for watching tv/movies, get a plasma will save you alot of money.

get lcd if:
-you are using a games console or want to use it as a secondary monitor
-want to a more energy efficient tv - eg the 55" lcd I have here is 5 1/2 star energy rating

Thought I might describe my 3D experience with the Samsung model:

The depth of field is amazing, it almost seems infinite to how 'far back' the depth goes
The motion isn't particularly great, I saw heaps of halo-ing/blurred effects
Stuff that's been converted from standard 2D is predictably pretty lame
Wearing the glasses presents somewhat of a disorientating experience. They 'communicate' with the TV so they activate/deactivate according to 2D/3D information. The problem is it feels like someone is constantly switching on/off the room lights. Until they come up with a 'lightproof' wrap-around design, it will annoy a lot of people
The glasses themselves look pretty cool, if a bit uncomfortable.
The post-3D experience is where it will destroy people's desire to fork over the cash for a 3D TV. After a 30 minute demonstration, I went back to work then noticed everything seemed to be simulated 3D, if that makes sense. Headaches and a very disorienting after experience for about an hour. Can you imagine wearing these for a 3 hour movie?

hahahah - yeah, but we dont watch that much TV to justify spending even a thousand bucks to buy a new one when the old one works fine.

Plus I paid a lot for mine when I bought it all that time ago and it has an awesome picture on it (Euro built Philips Matchline) so its not too bad.

In a few years - There will be an epidemic of tech heads with serious depth perception problems and a useless 3d tv.

I do not see it taking off at all.
