Run it from the standard intake point, but set up a heat sheild to box your pod in.

problems:
1. i cant get the standard intake pipe (the one that goes behind the grille) out
2. theres really not much room at all, anywhere..

its nearly winter. who needs a heatshield?

As Nurb stated just use the standard intake pipe.

the one that goes behind the grille? that one doesnt seem so effective, compared to something like actually behind the lower grille

As in the actual intake? Just unbolt your slam panel and undo the screws, it will come straight out.

There's also another way, but you need to drill a big hole :)

lol, the slam panel is the centre peice at the front of your motor that sits above the intake and radiator.

The other way is here http://motorcade.co.za/index.php?main_page=popup_image&pID=333

Is the intake hose actually connected to the pod?

Theoretically, isn't it only a CAI if the hose is connected to the POD? So it in turns routes cold air back into the manifold?

DIXIE
5th May 2010, 12:41 AM
back into the manifold? i just wanna force cold air from the front of the car into the vicinity of the pod...

p.s i just read through 55 pages of CNBLU's car, and didnt find any pics that help me. all i can think of now is how i wish i had a blue TS with white 18's and like 200kw lol

I've just got a flexi pipe (like rory said) and replaced the stock intake snorkel. Removed the slam panel (thats the plate that locks your hood in place... so the big piece that sits above/behind your grill). My pipe pulls out and sucks air from behind the grill. Originally I had the new pipe just shoved over the OEM's opening... then I realised how useless this was cause it wasnt even getting it from outside.

Car feels better now. Hope that helps.

the one behind the grill may cause you trouble when sitting behind a car on a rainy day spraying up mist

DIXIE
5th May 2010, 01:35 PM
yeah, but i figure its less trouble than putting it behind the lower grille lol
i had a really low one on my VL, and it never caused me any problems.. plus, if water can somehow get all the way up there (and thats gotta be a LOT of suction), then it'll just fall out into the bay cause there is a gap between the end of the pipe and the pod

I havent had any problems even through heavy rain. Pipe insides dry as a bone... but I've positioned mine so its behind the badge area a bit.

@ Dixie, looks good mate :) Pretty much same as mine but Im running an apollo enclosed

DIXIE
5th May 2010, 02:12 PM
yeah i wanted to maximize air flow so i made sure to put it not behind the badge.. but **** it if it gets wet, i can always move it

and yeah encloseds are cool.. but i dont wanna lose the hektikness of my dose

I mine through the inner guard but I did have the cut a 3" hole in the inner guard area. I've never had any issues with rain or anything even with it so low...

I have the intake down where the fog light used to be...
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t262/aussiegman/My%20Astra%20SRi-T/06042007005.jpg

And I made a heatshield up to protect the pod. Trying the 1.9 and 2.2 airboxes and the pod again with the new setup (no AFM) but don't know which one i'll leave on...

The links not working....Getting a piece of car bon thick and rigid enough will be pretty expensive. I made my own carbon kevlar sheet and then laminated a piece of Aluminium and cut to fit. Working/cutting properly cured rigid carbon can be a pain and slightly dangerous as the dust and shards can cause breathing problems...Just be careful if thats all you going to use only carbon...
