For just an every day tyre Gav on the G Toyo's perform great in tread wear and in grip. Don't know if they make the Sumitomo's HTR III's that I have on my ute for the size you run on the G but they are an awsome tyre with loads of grip in the wet and dry. Even now my rears are get low they still grip heaps.

I am enjoying my Pirelli P zero nero's in the dry. I have not had any under-steer with them no matter how hard i throw it into a corner. In the wet though they are horrible and feel very unsafe.

Best tyres I have driven on to date would have to be Micheline Pilot sports (they are now called cup sports) we had on our SS. I still compare every tyre to them and have not found anything that comes close in all weather and driving situations. Semi slick tyre that just gripped no matter what you gave it.
When I spoke with Micheline about them last month, they do not hold stock of them in Australia and were $800 a corner in a 215/35 r18. A bit too rich for me at the moment.

All depends though, what your budget is and what you want out of them.
I must admit though the Kuhmo's (31 i think) I have on my rear and had on the front for a year, when set at the right pressure are great to drive on, just a bit noisy though

If you're getting the Sumitomos, stay away from the HRTZ II -- they seem to be a deathtrap in the wet!

as loud as they are under load, I thought the Maxxis Victra MA-Z1 I had on the WRX were a fantastic tyre for the money I paid - my only criticisms of them are that they squealed a lot and the sidewall was softer so didn't feel as sharp as the OEM Bridgestones. Otherwise on the road and on a track day around Winton they were brilliant.

The HTR III's are alot better. Gav another one for you is the Yokohama S-Drive. they come in 215/40x18 and 225/35x18

well on my astra i have kumho ku31s. great tyre for the money then again got em at mates rates. on my mums lancer we have toyo proxes 4s on there and theyre even better than the ku31s. ive driven almost 1500ks on the ku31s and havent really had a problem. however the compound does seem fairly soft and i dont think im gonna get good wear (lucky dads in the wheel and tyre business). as for the proxes 4s between me, mum and dad weve driven 23 000 ks on them and theres still a bit over 50% tred. those are two fairly good tyres imo. oh yeh and steer clear of republic invaders, had them on my old vk commo cause they were cheap and lets just they cost me the car.

As said depends on wat you want them for.

The Cup Sports are a very good tyre, but expensive.
Are you looking for an R compound or road tyre?

Falken Azenis are a good sports tyre and don't cost a bomb.

Running the Yokohama AD-08 Neova's at the moment. Again a little pricey but they are one of the best tyres I've ever driven on for the road! I'll definately be getting them again.

My ku36's only cost $250 a corner, the 31's should be cheaper than that. Slightly different profile though, 225 40 18.

what are your thoughts guys?

If you're looking at a Falken tyre in the mix Gav, i'd go the FK 452 beofre the ZE912's. The 452's come in your sizes too. Pity the RT 615's don't come in your size.

I had the 452's on last year and found them to wear out very quickly and they made a lot of noise around corners.
apart from that i really did enjoy them.

I managed 60,000km+ out the 452's when I had them so thought wear was pretty good. The 615's i've got now won't get anywhere near that but I just don't care. :D

i got my ku31s for 170 a corner fitted. 215/35/19s. mums proxes 4s were 200 a corner but they are 225/352/0s. if proxes 4s and ku31s are the smae price for you go the proxes 4s. ive driven both and the proxes 4s are better and youll get better wear from the proxes 4s

i think you have to take into account your power output Gav, some of the suggestions here might save you money but whats the point when you have wheelspin everywhere!!

if it were me, i'd just suck it up and pay for some decent sticky tyres.........

Left of field suggestion Gav Sumitomo HTR Z III. If they grip and put the power down in wet and dry conditions on a 300kw ute I rekon it would do the job for the G. Ive had Bridgestones and Toyos on it both good but one was noisy the other grip levels were ok but not to my liking. The rears are on the indicators at the moment and still grip like they were still new in the wet.

Hey Gav, i double (or triple) the notion on the Sumitomo HTR Z III. I have them on my G. Love them. 215/40/18. The rating was what really limited my selections at the end. The Sumi's had a 89y rating and are good in the wet, not too noisy and the side walls seem good.
I got mine off Adrian (good dude) from Steves Wheels . For the life of me can not remember what i paid a side as i got them bundled. Sorry. Happy hunting.

ku31's can be had for 160 a corner... they're def not as grippy as the 452's, but might wear a lot better.

KU31's is what i got and what a difference! Alot better than what i was expecting especially with whats been said about them on this forum.

I did want longevity out of them hense my choice. My old Hankook's were a sight for sore eyes :(

ps. all these quotes are for cash im assuming, i got it on GE cause i need ma cash for the wedding!

Ok thought i would put up a mini review of how the new tyres are going.

Most of my traction issues are completely gone. 1st gear is a little chirp and then no wheelspin in 2nd, thats with traction on. With it off i get a little chirp in 2nd with first still a little to short :D

The grip is pretty good, i took a round-a-bout and 70km and it stuck like glue. I was impressed.

The only downside that i have on these tyres is that they now rub my guards! They are the same size and my Hankooks but somehow rub on the backs only. Might have to look into getting them lipped. Anyone know where i can get this done?

KU31 Kuhmo 'I Highly Recommend Them'

yea my last 2 sets have been KU31's
not the best, but definately do the job
just be wary, as they get on with age and wear, they get a bit harsh, noise increases noticably

got them through tempe tyres (i know i know) for $175 a corner delivered

Warm the paint as well to stop it cracking..A hair dryer usually gets it hot enough....
