Well my mind is pretty well set on one of these, I know it's taken me a while but the price they have come down to (for me anyway) is too good to pass up.

Since bub is coming (in september) I wanted to have a good camera for that, and the video function will be handy.
I will buy a video camera later on so it won't be used as a primary video camera.

I know it sounds stupid me asking you guys this, but using one in teh shop compared to the real world is different.

So any thoughts or experiences from anyone just let me know.

Cheers

My brother got one as a wedding present. He seems to love it for how easy it is to use. even his wife who is a blonde can work it out and take decent photos.

Its a great camera for its price.

RRP is 1399 from memory, i never look at rrp
in retail it doesnt exist anymore, its a cut throat industry now.

quick comparison

550d
18mp
6400iso (less noise in low light)
exposure compenstion -5 to +5
3.7frames per second

500d
15mp
3200 iso
exposure compensation -2 to +2
3.4 frames per second

both have the movie mode @ 1920*1080 550d slightly higher at 24fps 500d at 20fps

500d much better buy than the 450d imho
as for group buy, honestly mate i doubt it, we buy, we lets say a lot of canon per month
unless we could get a gourp buy of say, 2000 then we might get em cheaper

the 500D does video also ;)

im still of the opinion from personal use, if you want a video camera buy a video camera, if you want a still camera buy a still camera

and for the $800+ price diff, the specs speak for them selves. why would you get a D90

Hmm yeh I agree with the for videos buy a vid camera statement deft agree. But I have seen the d90s video and they are really good. But there's something about holding a dslr for video that don't feel right... Deff need something skinny and longer with a flip out screen for vid camera :p
