View Full Version : What would you value my car at?

Guys,

I have had a look on Redbook but i think my car is worth more than their valuation:
Private - $8,500 - $10,300
Trade in - $6,000 - $7,800
Based on an avg Km of 120,000 to 200,000.

Mine is the 2002 (MY03) 2.2 SRi in Pearl/Metallic Black, 79,500Kms with service history.
HBD body kit ($4,000 option as far as i am aware)
Clean interior, small scuffs on centre panel on dash but it would cost me next to nothing to change for a clean one.
Small wear and tear on outside, pretty straight and ding free for it's age though.

It looks like it has been Wax sealed as well.

What do you think?
Bri

There is no money in second hand private sales these days, sorry to be the bearer of bad news!!!!

What if you saw it at a dealer though? What price would you expect to see it there?

at a dealer they would still probably be 11-14k

well probably around 11-12, but there is a lot more buyer protection involved with buying from a dealer. - That's just the way it works I'm afraid. Given the way the 2ndhand car market is at the moment I unfortunately wouldn't be expecting much. Buying 2ndhand cars does get you good value at the moment however.

The reason i am asking is i am trying to persuade a dealer to do me a straight swap on a car i know he has had on his books for around 12 months. I think the values are comparable and that he would have a better chance of selling mine as it is non-turbo and would appeal more to the P-platers out there?

Am i being unrealistic? Do dealers out here do that kind of thing?

trade in expect no more than 7K, Private sale around 9-10K

About 12 months ago i got mine evaluated at 12K by a holden dealership. Heated leather and side airbags added an additional 2K. Since then I expect at least a 2k price drop.

I have seen 02 sri's selling for as low as 6K.

Brad's sold for under 9k and that was an excellent example.

I think you'd be pushing 8k

Thanks for your comments, thought it may have been a quick way of getting an SRi-T!!

If anybody is after a turbo there is one for sale in Redcliffe for less than $12k, Arden Blue 2003 model with about 90K on the clock. Seems tidy enough. You will find it on carsales.

throw up the carsales link we might have some background info on it for you.

But yes sadly id imagine you would only be looking at around the 8k mark. Gotta remember that the car is now 8 years old. When you can grab a new Getz drive away for something like $13k or probably even less with a 5 year warranty, brand new with 0kms on it.

seems pretty nice, except the wheels, pretty hideous but easily changed!!

unfortunately doubt you could straight swap the 2.2 for it, it's like if i took a Commodore S and tried to swap it for an SS, wouldnt happen!!!

but with suck low k's, should maybe get a bit for the 2.2 privately and then put the bit extra and get a Turbo!!! the 2.2s on carsales are still worth 8k plus............

Thats an old members car (orion_996), water pump seised in it and bent all 16 valves, it got a rebuild pretty sure cost over $3,500 dollars. Was stock all bar a re-map, and just some exterior stuff.

well i bought my 2002 sri from rick damalien honda. it had 15k on the window but my dad haggled him down to 12.5k. it had 57k on the clock and was imaculate. unfortunately its an auto but me in all my wisdom got my ps in an auto but idc. what i reckon you should do is just look on careslaes etc at cars in similar condition to yours with similar ks and see what people are asking for them.
