Hi all,

I am keen to buy an astra wagon, but I am unsure of which model/colour. And also what are peoples thoughts regarding kilometres? Personally I am not bothered, but I've got no idea when it comes to astras, do they tend to get problems after they reach so many kilometres?

CD? CDX? or can I get the CD model and just purchase the extras that the CDX comes with?

Why a wagon you might be thinking?...... I like the look of them, I need the space, and wagons dont tend to get thrashed, so they are normaly in pretty good nick.

All and any advice is welcome, thanks.

welcome ben

i agree wagon does look cool ive been tempted to do one up many a times.. would love to do a complete stereo down the back half and a vxr wagon kit :p

id suggested with astras get low kms (obviously) but stay clear of the around 60k kms mark as thats a major service and can be very costly sometimes it worth going for the 70k kms over it..

as for cd and cdx options.. they both should be pretty much price pointed the same now days so may aswell get the cdx. yes u can get CDs which have had CDX options done aswell.

Model Astra AH (dont think they made a TR/TS one) as for colour upto u really stay away from the champagne and watermelon green colour theyre horrible! red has held up reasonably well so far no signs of fading to pink yet, black always looks the best but noting ur in the N.T. expect to clean often! id say get a silver/pewter one.

As for problems, umm timing belt is pain to replace on these engines and can be costly. some reports of faulty water pumps but rare... some years have electrical faults (power steering turns off for a little while) this ussually happens after start up.

other than that id say go for it you wont be dissapointed, just dont expect much performance, there zippy but there in no way quick (stock)

Other than only having the 1.8 as an option, what's wrong with them, can look alright :)

Astra wagon ever come in 2.2 or Diesel?

In terms of reliability, they are middle of the road compared to other Euros.. (IMO better than french, italian, Audi/VW and not as good as BMW). Just make sure it's been serviced correctly.. parts are pretty cheap for an euro if you order from overseas.

What other cars you looking at?

wouldnt buy it from that dealership either..

brother in law used to have a cdx wagon, he fully optioned it (complete with dvd screens in the back etc). you're probably better off getting a cdx anyway because once you add the features in it'd probably cost you more? that was a gorgeous car. had it for just over a year and racked up 100 thou.. only problem we ever had with it was the windscreen (and that was cuz someone got peed off and punched it...) still went like a bullet, lovely z18xer engine keeps pulling and pulling even uphill. i really dont understand why everyone hates them so much! the astra wagon was multitudes better than the veccy b wagon he has now (but that might be because its an auto).

Thanks for all your advice,

I am trying to decide between this car (http://www.carpoint.com.au/all-cars/dealer/details.aspx?R=8375467&__sid=127F376E3F7F&__Qpb=true&Cr=0&__Ns=pCar_PriceSort_Decimal%7c0%7c%7cpCar_RankSort _Int32%7c1%7c%7cpCar_Make_String%7c0%7c%7cpCar_Mod el_String%7c0&keywords=&__N=834%201216%201247%201282%201252%201246%2042949 65857%204294965856%201562&seot=1&__Nne=3&__No=8&trecs=200&silo=1000) and this one (http://www.carpoint.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=8376031&__sid=127F379E11BA&__Qpb=true&Cr=2&__Ns=pCar_PriceSort_Decimal%7c0%7c%7cpCar_RankSort _Int32%7c1%7c%7cpCar_Make_String%7c0%7c%7cpCar_Mod el_String%7c0&keywords=&__N=834%201216%201247%201282%201252%201246%2042949 65857%204294965856%201562&seot=1&__Nne=3&__No=22&trecs=200&silo=1003). I would have liked a white one but black is my second choice.

what do you guys think?

I'd probably go for the silver one just because it *doesn't* have a sunroof...

STNFLDR
12th April 2010, 08:45 PM
Hmmm, whats wrong with a sunroof? I thought that was pretty cool? I am leaning towards the grey one, I think its the wise choice, but my heart wants the blck one. It would be easier to make changes to it as well e.g black mags, replace chrome grill with black etc etc.

$15k for the black one with 110,000km is way too much. budget $1,000 for the 120k service.

The silver one is better value..

I''d hold out and see if you can find something with 60km for less.. for under $15k.

just cuz sunrooves have a tendancy to stuff up. plus your aircon wont work as well with it. maybe i just don't like sunrooves lol.

while i love black astras, the grey/silver one is better value by far.

Aircon works better with sunrooves if u open it slightly it sucks the aircon air around the cabin more. Works even better in winter with the heater

Yep, my brain won the fight!! I put a deposit on the grey car. I figure it gives me a bit to spend on mods.
As for the service.... I have the cdx Vectra, so I know the obscene servicing costs:eek6:

Now.... just gotta find a company to ship it up here.
