Gotcha! Pagani's top secret 350km/h supercar caught testing

The all-new $1.4million Pagani C9 will be lighter and more powerful - not to mention even sleeker and sexier - than the outgoing Zonda.

Our eagle-eyed snappers have caught the new C9 model from Italian supercar manufacturer Pagani.

For those of you who can't tell the difference between the Pagani Zonda and the new Pagani C9, we can assure you that the C9 is a whole new ballgame - Pagani says the new car has 3770 new parts.

Sure, it may look like a Zonda, but these clear spy pictures show the Pagani C9 has gained several visible additions.

The standout add-on is the extroverted air-intake on the rear of the car, which pokes up behind the bulging rounded cabin - a hint to what's hidden under the blacked out clear engine covers.

Also noticeable is an all-new front lip; swoopier rear-wheel arches with bigger smoother air intakes; and a redesigned rear wing.

So that's a few parts that are different - what about the other 3750? Well, it's likely that a lot of those bits are under the skin of the even sexier Pagani C9.

Horacio Pagani, founder of the Italian supercar brand, has confirmed the C9 is: "a brand new car from concept, weight distribution, materials and dynamics."

As you can see in Drive's exclusive spy pictures, the Pagani C9 sports clear panels over the rear-mounted engine, though they have been blacked out with tape - but the secret is out about what's hidden under the covers.

Pagani will drop the Zonda's 7.0-litre V12 in exchange for a turbo mill for the new C9 - hence the bold air intake which will help get more cold air into the engine bay. The C9 will be home to a Mercedes-Benz 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 - the same engine as a Mercedes-Benz SL65 Black.

The power-plant is slated to pump out about 520kW and a stonking 1000Nm of torque. If you think those numbers are impressive, how about the Pagani C9's sub-three second 0-100km/h time? It's also got an estimated top speed of well over 350km/h.

Weight is one of the main elements of the Pagani game, the new C9 will sport an ultra-light carbon-titanium chassis. Active aerodynamics will also feature on the C9, allowing optimised downforce depending on the speed of the car.

The 19-inch front wheels and 20-inch rears are wrapped with Pirelli tyres, engineered specifically for the new C9. The wheels don't quite hide the considerably large carbon ceramic brake rotors.

The C9 is expected to debut in Europe later this year, and is expected to be priced at around 900,000 Euro (approx AU$1,400,000).

Reports suggest the Pagani C9 will start production at the end of 2010.

It don't look no different to the current Zonda, I was expecting to see something totally new/new model Pagani C9= Zonda update then, as all those new parts don't change the external appearance...:skep:

Good to see the partnership with Merc is still intact as they're continuing to source the powerplant from them...

you didnt like the old one?

Most probably not LOL as they look the same :)

New one is going to be one hell of a rocket though as it's improved in that department, the old one was already super fast...
